Go Young Wook
- Name: Go Young Wook
- Native name: 고영욱
- Also Known as: Ko Young Wook, Go Yeong Wook, Go Yeong Uk
- Nationality: South Korean
- Gender: Male
- Born: February 17, 1976
- Age: 50
He made his debut in 1994 as the group's rapper with their first album, "Roots of Reggae". The concept of a co-ed hip-hop and dance-pop vocal group immediately attracted many fans, and they became one of South Korea's most popular musical acts of the 1990s.
However, in 1996, several songs from their third album were accused of plagiarism and faced severe criticism from the media and the public. They went to Los Angeles and worked on their music there, but even after releasing a few more albums later on, their reputation took a hit with the plagiarism incident, and ROO'RA ultimately disbanded in early 2001.
In 2004, he formed a temporary duo with Shin Jung Hwan called SINNAGO: ROO'RA MAN (신나고 (룰라맨)), releasing the single "Sinnago: Project One". They released a second single in 2008 called "The Reason Why I Hate Winter". ROO'RA briefly reunited in 2009 for their ninth and final album, " A9ain".
Then, he became involved in a major scandal when he was arrested and indicted on charges of sexually assaulting, harassing, and raping three minors on five occasions in his residence and car from July 2010 to December 2012.
In April 2013, he was originally sentenced to 5 years in prison, 7 years of information disclosure, and 10 years of wearing an electronic ankle bracelet. However, after several appeals, the Supreme Court reduced the sentence to 2 years and 6 months in prison, 5 years of information disclosure and 3 years of wearing an electronic ankle bracelet.
In July 2015, he was released from Seoul Southern Prison and wore the ankle monitor until 2018. He is out of the entertainment industry as he has been banned by all networks in South Korea. His IG and Facebook accounts were immediately suspended and he opened a YouTube channel in August 2024 where he immediately criticized Lee Sang Min and wondered why actor Lee Kyung Young was allowed to return after committing a similar crime. The channel was banned after 18 days, and he now relies on X (formerly known as Twitter) to communicate with others.
