Lawrence Ko is a Taiwanese actor born in Taipei, Taiwan. His father, Ko Yi Cheng (柯一正), is a film director and actor. He made his acting debut at age five in the film "Papa, Can You Hear Me Sing?" (搭錯車).

He later studied drama at Taipei National University of the Arts (國立臺北藝術大學), where he was mentored by Luo Bei An (羅北安), head of the Green Light Theatre troupe. After nearly two years of military service, he worked as a production assistant at Ju Dian Media (聚點影視), progressing to post-production and special effects roles. He then joined October Films (十月影視) as an assistant director and editor for Fu Chang Feng (符昌鋒), eventually directing projects of his own.

In 2012, he faced legal trouble after attempting to cut a helmet strap with a lighter to take a replacement helmet from another motorcycle, accidentally causing a fire that damaged seven motorcycles. He was charged with public endangerment under Taiwan's Criminal Code, later settling with the vehicle owners for NT$210,000, which led to the charges being withdrawn.
