Successively classical musician, journalist and film critic for Julien Carbon, audiovisual director, writer and journalist for Laurent Courtiaud, it is through their passion for Asian cinema that the two men met in Paris in 1990.
They will first join forces with Butterfly Warriors , a luxurious fanzine on cinema from Asia which is then practically unknown, and helps to publicize that of Hong Kong. In 1995, he prepared to embark on the Hong Kong adventure while collaborating in the creation of the review HK Orient Extrême Cinéma.
In 1996, they sold their first screenplay to director Tsui Hark who invited them to join him. They integrate the Film Workshop as screenwriters, and There develop many screenplays. At the end of their contract, they embark on their own and are successful in 1999 with Running Out of Time of Johnnie To . Julien Carbon and Laurent Courtiaud joined Vancouver for a while to participate in the filming of Kit Wong's Black Door , for which they signed the screenplay. They then worked as screenwriters for Wong Kar-wai and participated in the filming of In the Mood for Love .
In 2007, they founded their production company Red East Pictures , in collaboration with director Kit Wong , in order to make their own films, genre works with a strong identity.
