Kim Dong Wan is a South Korean singer, dancer, actor, and member of SHINHWA (신화). He graduated from Whimoon High School and later obtained an associate's degree in Applied Music from Woosong Information College, a bachelor's degree in Theater from Sangmyung University, and a master's degree in Sports Marketing from Kookmin University.

He made his debut as a child actor, but as he grew up, he decided not to continue his acting career and continued his studies. He was then scouted by SM Entertainment (SM엔터테인먼트) while he was walking on the street and decided to give it a try despite not being fully convinced about becoming a singer.

He made his debut in March 1998 as the group's vocalist with their first album, "Resolver". However, the album was not well received by the music critics, and the public and SM began thinking about disbanding or restructuring the group.

While the group was switching agencies, he made his debut as a solo artist in July 2007 with the album "Kimdongwan Is", featuring all the other members either rapping, singing or even writing and composing.

In 2008, SHINHWA went on hiatus as members began enlisting. He started his mandatory service on November 17, 2008, and was discharged on December 7, 2010. After being released, he began acting and also participated in several musicals.

The group officially made a comeback after a 4-year break. They reunite to release new material every now and then. Group activities are managed by Shinhwa Company (신화컴퍼니), established by Eric Mun and with Lee Min Woo as the co-CEO since 2011. He and the rest of the members serve as shareholders.

In December 2022, he joined Lee Min Woo and Kim Dong Wan and formed the group's first sub-unit, SHINHWA WDJ (신화 WDJ), debuting with the mini-album "Come To Life".

For his individual activities, he created his own company, Studio Wan (스튜디오완), in early 2023.
