Mary Hsu was a Taiwanese actress born in Jiangsu, Wu, China. She graduated from the Department of Dance at the National Taiwan University of Arts (國立臺灣藝術大學). In 1989, she placed third in the "Jiale China Miss" (佳樂中國小姐) competition, which led to her career in the entertainment industry. She debuted in 1990 on the Taiwan Television (TTV) show "Female Ugly Theater" (女丑劇場) and later expanded her career to include music albums and photo collections. In 2005, Hsu founded her own modeling agency and gradually withdrew from public entertainment.

In January 2008, she was diagnosed with stage 3 stomach cancer and underwent emergency surgery. She was hospitalized again the following year for further cancer treatment. Her condition worsened in December 2011, and she passed away on December 6, 2011, from organ failure at the Taichung Veterans General Hospital (台中榮民總醫院) at the age of 42.
