Realism, gore, and grit, not Your usual Zombie Drama lol
This was genuinely a great watch, not the kind that completely hyped me up like Train to Busan (though let’s be real, the ending of that one was so unnecessary), but definitely worth the time.
I didn’t plan on watching it when it was first announced last year. The idea of too much comedy in a zombie setting usually puts me off. But then, I randomly saw bits of the trailer and thought, Okay… I have to watch this.
Life got busy and I totally forgot about it, until yesterday. I read some comments saying the beginning was boring, so I went in prepared for a slow start. But honestly? People exaggerated. Not every zombie show needs to open with chaos and destruction. Sometimes it’s refreshing to see life before the outbreak. We still don’t know how it all started (they didn’t explain that), but the gradual buildup was well done.
It begins with people just living their everyday lives, and then slowly… things start falling apart. I was expecting over-the-top comedy because of the genre blend, but nope! It had funny moments, sure—but they felt natural, not forced. Actually, there's more gore than comedy, and the thrill definitely dominates.
Now let's talk about Alex. He died—shibal! That was such an annoying death. 왜?! He was such a good guy, so supportive, and he absolutely could’ve kept everyone safe. I was not ready for that.
Also… can we talk about how in some zombie shows people act like they’ve never heard of zombies before? Come on, it’s 2025! Who doesn’t know how they work? They caught on eventually, but still, it was a little frustrating.
I won’t type a lot more, my fingers are tired lol, but let me just say, there were so many things that could’ve been handled smarter. I kept thinking, Man, I wanna be in a zombie drama so bad. It looks exhausting and terrifying, but so fun!
And that kid who got into the train? That was heartbreaking. I knew that would happen. Crowded stations in zombie apocalypses are just a NO. You can’t see who’s been bitten, there’s no control, and panic makes people do the dumbest things. High ground is always the better option!
And the guy who was with the female lead at the station—did he really die just from that fall? Brutal. It looked like a zombie waterfall. That whole situation was so messy. I would never put myself in a place like that!
Overall, you won’t regret watching Newtopia. It may not be a flawless masterpiece, but it’s definitely entertaining, exciting, and full of memorable moments. I need a second season—like, immediately EHEHEEH.
And, the chemistry between Ra In ho and Lee Je Yun was so cute, a true bromance wahahah, And they were both the smartest like howww! oh and Aaron Park! my man slayed his role and he literally survived till the end 😂 Imagine surviving a zombie apocalypse even when you're but just by drinking alcohol, so happy he survived!
