By explanation, do you mean it’s Issei’s larger-than-life, very direct and vivacious character? Not that that…
Ah yes thanks for confirming. That’s my understanding too that them meeting on the jetty deck under the stars was the first meeting. I thought you meant it wasn’t their first meeting, which is what I’m reading in comments below about editing etc … that didn’t align with what Suzu said to Sakura in ep 6.

It’s not that I’m triggered by the sudden kiss in ep 1… but I’m a bit confused with what you’re saying…
Thanks, I did rewatch. Several times in fact and very recently too just a few days ago. Their meet cute is chronological. But it’s ok … we all see what we want to see.

JUST A HEADS UP:If you are going to watch this drama, and you are triggered by non consensual stuff, don't be…
It’s not that I’m triggered by the sudden kiss in ep 1… but I’m a bit confused with what you’re saying here about them already knowing each other. I’ve just watched ep 6 and when Sakura asked Suzu where she met Issei, Suzu said it was at the campsite. Sakura even asked if Issei hit on her then. Then it was when Suzu’s mom passed soon after that Issei delivered the mementos to the funeral home. So not sure how they edited it the way you saw them as meeting for the second time at the campsite. Maybe there’s more in the remaining eps?

Title Who Is She! Spoiler
Such knee jerk reactions here to trash a drama just because they didn’t give us the expected ending or when a preferred CP didn’t end up together. Personally I like the changes from the movie to focus more on mother-daughter-granddaughter relationships. In the movie, granny was a bully of a mother-in-law who favoured her son and grandson. The (feminist) updates in the drama are good. Characters are also less shouty and cringe than in the movie. Agree with comments that the execution could’ve been better and maybe it could’ve done with less episodes so we didn’t have to watch so many flashbacks. This is all fantasy anyway so the implausibility of the ending is consistent with and about as “realistic” as how a 73yo could turn back to her 21yo self!

Title Ripe Town Spoiler
Probably my favourite Cdrama for 2023 now. Was really worried this will suffer from the Cdrama curse of an overly righteous ending but they stuck the landing. Very well done!

Really interesting to note from ep 8 when the mastermind was shown in disguise in the streets that he had long pinkie fingernails. Thereafter, Magistrate Wei was also shown as having those same nails …

I've been wanting to watch one of Lee Dohyun's dramas for a while but more of them have romance (which is not…
Have you watched Beyond Evil? Lee Dohyun has a supporting role & he did very well.

I’m usually allergic to romance dramas (apart from the occasional well-made romcoms & melos) but “The Good Bad Mother” does seem more slice of life. From the trailers, there seem to be some romance/love triangle but I’m hoping they keep it classy. Ahn Eunjin is a phenomenal actress so she’ll be good to watch. Ra Miran always delivers as well.

Their names are connected. In ep 4, CGY explains that Yan in his name means "inkstone" while Ying in cop's name…
For the cop, it’s “chǔ” that means paper. “Yīng” is part of “yīngxióng” which means hero. And Yīyǒng means something like one or a single eternity. Not sure it relates to brush.

Always frustrating when iQiyi subs are always sketchy especially when they translate 一趴 as “one-per” when it’s “one percent”.

Title Women in Taipei Spoiler
This drama is boring... or rather the FL is unbearable boredom. I think this is the first time I've wanted to…
I agree! FL is so bland plus her decisions and choices are infuriating. I’ve watched till ep 5 and also about to quit. I can so see how she’ll just end up happily ever after with her high school friend, Cheng-en. I may just watch the original Japanese series.
Expected this drama to be more slice-of-life and deal with the societal issues confronting modern women but nope, it’s just a pursuit of romance and sex. What a pity as the production quality is good. I much prefer Arc of Life even though the storyline relied on too much fluff as well, but at least the relationships were more relatable.

Title The Heart of Genius Spoiler
I'm not sure what plot device you're referring to but multiverse and time travel are topics that have been explored…
The SOOD plot device is not generally used for time travel or at least not in the many time travel films and series I’ve watched. It’s where Cheese LZX is trapped in the subconscious or infinite space. This is used in horror for sure as spiritual possession 😂. Not saying everything in the time travel or sci-fi genre has to be original. It’s just very obvious when this drama copied scenes (esp from Get Out) and even the similar dialogue from SOOD. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery I guess.

Isn't this drama based on a novel called "Genius Fundamentals" which was released on 2017. It was 2 years prior…
Yes but I haven’t read the original novel to determine whether the drama is a faithful adaptation. Have you? Maybe the novel did come up with that plot device first but by all accounts from Chinese news about this drama, the adaptation is very different plot-wise and also in terms of characterisations.
On The Heart of Genius Jul 31, 2022
Ripping off the plot device from Someday Or One Day and also the Sunken Place scene from Get Out?! Chinese dramas are most definitely consistent for one thing: lack of originality! Was enjoying this until ep 20, remains to be seen how this drama ties everything together. Standout performances so far from Lei Jiayin, Zhang Zifeng, Wang Youjun (too good to be in a supporting role), Wang Shengdi and Fu Bohan.

我的未来不是梦
The original singer for 我的未来不是梦 was Zhang Yusheng (Tom Chang) an awesome Taiwanese singer, and his original version is on Spotify. There are also covers by Taiwanese bands Sodagreen (lead singer Wu Qingfeng has a wonderful higher pitch voice) and EggPlantEgg. I see both covers on Spotify.

yup, i did hear something like Canton words coming out of that young chap's mouth, but he didn't enunciate the…
Gotta give him credit for trying though! Northerners or Beijingers rarely speak any other dialect especially the Southern dialects like Cantonese. I’m pretty sure even my Cantonese pronunciation is terrible, simply because it’s not my own dialect. At least Bai Yufan’s Cantonese was better than the hotel staff’s English 😂

English fansubs by a volunteer for this drama are truly and greatly appreciated. But many Chinese idioms and common phrases have been mis-translated to be either too literal or overly simplified, which in many instances alter the meaning of what’s said. The subber has in fact clarified that some translations are “rough” (an understatement)! Hope the non-Chinese speakers who are watching don’t take these subs at face value and assume accuracy or wonder why the dialogue seems to be too slangy. The dancing aunties are most definitely not using slang and neither are they speaking like millennials/Gen Z. The dialogue for this drama is in fact very meaningful and the characters do express themselves eloquently, often with self-deprecating humour.

Regarding comments about the fansubs being “pretty accurate”: note the fansubs definitely provide a decent guide, but are not 100% accurate (eg. 红茶 hóngchá is most definitely not red tea, it’s black tea). Dictionary definitions of the many idioms and common phrases show something else. But many watching may not be fluent and are none the wiser. Not criticizing just pointing out so others don’t assume accuracy. Chinese idioms and proverbs are incredibly meaningful and are cleverly utilised in many profound ways to enrich this drama’s dialogue. It’s a very enjoyable series and glad so many are finding this to be the case because of fansubs. It’s a great pity there are no official/professional subtitles for this drama.
