I'm going to do a little analysis of my own titled 'The case of the mugs' So the mugs essentially are a reminder of the worst times in their relationship. When in the shop, Joe says he's aways wanted them but he's not been couple with anyone, to which Ming replies 'who said I'm your boyfriend' Next when he sees the mugs in his house with their names inscribed, his joy is shortlived because it's then he realizes for sure that Ming has loved Tong all along. And the mugs are smashed. When we next see the mugs they've been repaired with kintsugi(?) A japanese technique of repairing cracks with gold. Kintsugi symbolizes celebrating the flaws and cherishing things. Joe sees the mugs and tries to smash them but ends up not being able to. Also Joe accepting Ming's terms rather than his friends/colleagues offers of help. Ming living in Joe's house even after 2 years, obsessively believing Joe is alive..
Both Joe and Ming are aware their relation is flawed but both are not able to let go. The poor little Joe comments are a bit misplaced because he knew what Ming was and still loved him. Some toxic people exist because their toxicity is enabled by someone else.
Ming has been pampered and protected by his sister and maybe Tong too?? He is a narcissist but Joe too sometimes behaves like an enabler.
Dont come at me, these are just random thoughts on scenes left open to interpretation π
Watching the series and then watching their videos on Up's channel π Up is such a sweetheart irl. But he's acted the obsessive poor little rich fanboy with narcissistic tendencies so well. People complaining about ming not changing, he's not a criminal who suddenly realizes his crimes. He is a grey character who believes he's entitled to having what he wants.
Sorry but this one was funny. Tong being pushed into the cracks of the sofa. The awkward tension between the main characters while four people wildly dancing with their hands in the air in the background
.... if you've had a bad day, have a piece of chocolate or a glass of wine why you here hoping to cut short some actors screen time πHope all actors get their deserved spotlight especially in a production as good as this.
Some people consistently badmouthing this series and the characters are the same ones who have given rapey dramas like kp a 9 rating. Oh the hypocrisy π
Here after reading the book. And I'm so glad that this team picked up the story to make. They did tone it down but didn't fuffy-fy the story. Yes the novel is much much more dark but the series was also kept a lot of the original essence. The actors are awesome.. Though I do wish they'd kept more of their childhood events esp Mazi's character but that would've made it a longer series..
