During their separation they both decided to let go, and convinced themselves they are at peace by wishing the other party will be happy...until they meet again and their " frozen heart"/ for him and "the wall around the heart" / for her, just crumbled.

Very impressed with Wang Ling pleading for her husband's life to CSS..she married a man she did not love, but was soften with his acts of kindness and generosity, and after he saved her life, she pledged herself to him..comparing ti CSS's reaction after LBY's murder spree, it does look like Wang was more forgiving ?
Or maybe it's harder to forgive those we love..

I think he kept hoping to find the evidence against those guilty of his family slaughter and present it to Wendy. When that option was lost and the last witness ( crazy Junhua) died, he lost it : he decided to do justice himself and kill himself, before wedding ( to avoid dragging Cheng family with him). So, can't blame him too much..
