Absolutely love the mature writing of how they made Zhuang xu take his one last push at Xi guang only after knowing she doesn't have a BF from chris (ofc from his perspective).... They usually make these SMLs suddenly toxic and stuff to the point of harassing the girl non stop etc & somehow the ML has to intervene for the 'damsel in distress'. I was so praying for the ML to not show up when FL & SML were having that talk near the taxi.... thank heavens for not having that age old cliche here. So I felt this was so nice to see the FL do it herself the proper closure for both of them. The writing overall has been very mature throughout except for whatever reason they made the ML a bit of mess initially with some stupid revenge mode just coz the girl he was supposed to see for a friggin blind date didn't visit him in the hospital coz he got injured ? I mean ethically the girl should have visited him, yes but bruh, she owes you nothing just coz she agreed for a blind date & dipped. So makes no sense for you to be hung up on her for some damn revenge... lol.. It was so weak but thankfully only lasted few episodes.. Otherwise 10/10 from me just for the mature storytelling even if there are about 6 episodes to go...

Yeah, same here. I am more a person who supports artists based on their genuine acting skills than popularity. So my comment was out of longing concern for an under-appreciated artist like SHB who should have had her breakthrough after Reborn Rich but her last two shows has only gone on to a way lesser traffic.

Getting lead roles won’t be an issue for her for time being as she is still the bigger artist for her agency. The problem though are the projects that will stamp her position as sought after FL which is where the agency are falling behind with zero strategic choices. Ofc they won’t be forcing her to do something cut throat way & it’s probably her call with the scripts etc but the agency also arent that capable to pull strings for her which makes me lean towards the possibility that maybe she doesn’t have that many choices & can’t wait forever … you know? That’s my whole issue with them. Anyway finger’s crossed & like you said, we can only root from afar anyway. End of the day that’s all we can do :)

I don’t comment in MDL usually & only use it for checking shows but was keeping tabs under the comments here as I am an avid follower of the actress since her early days & found this thread rather interesting.

I would beg to differ from your pov with some additional perspectives here reg how OP’s pov to worry about SHB’s career trajectory is valid. I understand he/she just deemed it a failure with 1 episode but let’s look at the context, the show is on channel A. It’s a small cable channel known to have less ratings, less traffic & is no way beneficial for the actors. Only extremely few rare shows made it out of that channel with decent ratings. So, from OP’s pov, this show indeed will not be beneficial for SHB irrespective of how positive the smaller audience meant for channel A might receive it when the show ends.

In addition, SHB’s last show didn’t have good ratings as well despite starring with a popular star. Reborn rich, again had A listers & 30% ratings, yet it became a major career dent for her as she was subject to much criticism not necessarily for her acting but a whole lot of other factors korea is known for (I won’t get into the details now but as someone who followed the issue closely when it happened I can vouch that it had nothing to do with her acting alone). Just starring in a show with popular stars alone doesn’t mean her career is on an ascending trajectory esp. in a patriarchal society like Korea. You are gravely mistaken if you think so.

So it is a very valid concern from OP imo. It’s something I have been feeling since the Reborn rich ended & firmly believe her agency isn’t doing enough to recover her career path. A good agency that really had means would have foreseen this loss-loss situation for her & avoided this after starring in a massive hit like reborn rich . They failed to capitalize her starring in a hit show or prevented her from getting slandered unfairly & unethically. That’s a huge failure from her agency which I am still very disappointed about

But her agency isn’t a very popular one & doesnt have any bigger stars than her afaik. Which is why I myself am waiting for the day she will move out for better prospects.

I really wanted to keep mum as it was irrelevant for MDL or this show but some of these borderline embarrassing hypernationalistic BS from my fellow country counterparts the moment we see a factual representation of our country's flaws really forced me to write this. I really cannot understand what triggers this hyper nationalism in you guys to defend anything negative as if your lives depend on it. Having lived all my life here, I didn't find anything remotely wrong with what was shown. Try to be rational instead of going rabid on nationalistic defense as soon as you see some kind of disparagement.

Caste system is still very rampant especially in villages. Those who deny this have been living in their comfort bubble. We ourselves literally make gazillion movies about caste based killings & crimes. Even today you can read about honor killings in villages, letting a particular community people to do Manual scanvenging & the list goes on. Someone was even suggesting how we are not racist. I was like wtf? Do these guys even live in the country to yap some random bile like that? We are inherently very racist in nature. Even today people from other states have an aversion and often make sly remarks at folks from South state like TN which has predominantly dark skinned people. Can you tell me how many dark skinned actresses have made it big here in our entertainment industry? Why do you have to lie through your teeth like that as if we are saints? 🤦‍♂️
