In my opinion, The main leads were separated in the end to give the drama an anti-hero climactic ending.

EP 1 to Ep 5 - felt like complete noir. (ML pov)
EP 6 to EP 8 - mixed personal thing into thier works.
EP 9 - breakpoint in drug/action.
EP 10, 11 - tension and trust issues.
EP 12 - the drama had too much going on and the drug capture scenes felt rushed.
