Yes that too was a part of the reason, it’s not necessarily uncommon but it takes a long time to train to achieve it, Yul is a genius so naturally he learns quicker than his fellow scholars, Jang Uk is also a Genius and being born under the Seven stars( kings star) he learns things even quicker than Yul especially because he already knows the theory parts to most if not all the energy levels, he was only lacking in the physical aspects because his energy gate was locked which also made him weaker than his peers, so glad he’s now feared by all those little fools that thought they were better than him.

But yes Sol Ran was in charge for keeping them safe as most are really dangerous in the
wrong hands so it only makes sense that she would spell bind it to her family line because Jinyowon was built (founded) by her. Oh all Jinyowon girls can open the cave but only the Devine priestess are best suited to rule as being Devine means you are born with a natural gift as well. Sol Ran and Buyeon so far but HoGeong can also handle the relics and I don’t think she’s a Devine priestess and so can Cho Yeon, remember if Buyeon didn’t come back Cho Yeon was set to take over. But Buyeon was always the better choice because she was set to have the same Devine gifts like Sol Ran ,both their senses are heightened possibly because they didn’t have the sense of sight so naturally all other senses are heightened and they have sort of clearvoiance gift, kinda like that seer name Baba Vanga that predicted a lot of things that came through, she had lost her eyesight as a young girl and gained the ability to see a person’s life from birth up to their deaths. She lost her physical eyesight but her 3rd eye opened, this is real life btw.( her story is quite interesting 🌸).
But yes I believe Sol ran Did a spell that only enabled her bloodine( female family members )to enter the cave so the it stays family inheritance. Btw they seemed to have forgotten that Cho Yeon was also a candidate to rule Jinyowon in part 1, remember it was an issue when they were discussing her marriage to Dangu And also HoGeong has no intention for Buyeon / Yeong to lead Jinyowon, that’s why she wants to lock her up and turn her into a breeding machine to hopelessly get a Devine priestess because that strengthens their position in power even more than a regular priestess like Ch Yeon 😭🌸
PS I cannot stress enough how much I loathe that woman, she’s a horrible piece of inhuman trash, she’s like a frigging scavenger.

Yes Uk was being trained under Songrim right? , it’s a basic mage school so just like any school you start from the basics, reading lots of books about the techniques then you train to manifest them irl. All magic schools do the same basic trainings and each person decides what to specialise in, eg Yul he has the basics but he was keen on understanding the biology of the bodies, Master Heo and Park Jin always involved him in more personal investigations ( soul shifters) even more than Dang Gu because 1 yul is a genius ( quick to learn) and he showed interest in understanding what happens to soul shifters etc.

Nature. Master Lee having reached Hwansu( non Jin ) is also skilled in handling relics also. So if you have an interest in magic you train to specialise in specific areas or you can decide to be an all rounder. Some ppl are faster learners ( we had master Lee and park Jin discussing this in part 1)

Sorry I forgot to say to your explanation. All mages magic is based off spirit/soul or supernatural elements but priestesss are simply more Nature based ( direct connection to a Goddess or Godlike, Deity figure)

Yes I agree and that’s because the writers decided to add the husband elements etc. a Devine priestess is the counter to a high priest and shouldn’t marry tbh. Yes priestess ( mages) can be passed down through families ( inherent) but all anyone who train in magic can perform it. With Solran it’s the same as for instance a
regular person has a children and all the boys came with a specific birthmark ( just an example) so yes it works that all the firstborn girls( in Jin’s case) came with that Devine
aspect imbedded in them( the special gene) I never disputed that and that’s also why HoGyeong is online y interested in a first born girl as the gene or gift does not naturally pass down to the boys..
it’s the same as in ancient times royalties married their siblings to keep bloodline pure as they thought being royal was a direct gift from God( which we know now us not true).
Priestesses magic is only different because of the context it’s used in meaning it’s either religious based (Deity) The Devine feminine ( The creator is female) so they are ordained to perform godly rituals and that’s where Uk the ice stone comes into play in the story because the ice stone is a godly element ( nature) so it makes sense for a Devine priestess or High priest to actually handle it.

As for the DNA part , I still question it because of the explanation master Lee gave and the nature of
the series( the base of the story thus far. But yes( this is long as always lol) Jinyowon priestess are still mages ( magician) but just all female based and all magicians do have their specialties that they train in. Eg master Heo he’s trained and specialised in Herbal magical medicine , Shamans( also mages) more tend to practice more like a voodoo or ancestral magic( they do magic communicating with dead spirits)

Shamans do magic with dead ancestors etc
Regular mages ( park Jin etc) do a wide scale of manifestation or illusion magic but they are all mages.
Like the short old man from Kaw school ( can’t remember his name, the one that Uk was with in the beginning of part 1, his magic is spirituality ( Buddhism) based so mainly manifestation using meditations.
