- He loves XY but he cannot get involved with her knowing that one day he is forever tied up to his adopted father's kindness

XL should have seized the moment when he sabotaged XY's marriage and just told the adopted father that he had done enough and would love to enjoy his spring time after making a deal with TSJ to supply the losing troops for the next 37 years!

XY was being insensitive with XL. So, I find XY lack of empathy in this episode.
