I finished Smiley on Netflix, awesome!
It's more modern than you described you'd like to watch, because they are perfectly confortable being gay, which is, in my opinion, what makes the story so attractive. A classic romcom with gay characters. They are in their 30s, I think you might like it.

We are waiting for Season 2 to be announced at the GMMTV Showcase for 2023, "Manifesting it"
I agree completely.
Beautiful characters, great actors, interesting plot... poor writing and directing.
I personally couldnt finish last two eps, after Aye's panic attact being solved with the second sponge bath of the story... I thought it was a new era BL series.

Well, the leads time together is sweet, fluffy and hot.
However, the plot slightly talks about suicide, suicidal tendencies, depression, discrimantion, homophobia and educational system... again, these topics have a lot of presence along the series but they arent treated seriously, or at least not as seriously as I think they should be.

What are you talking about!?
Who watched Thua being bullied and acted was Khan. Akk and Aye were never witnesses of that situation. Akk was responsible for the 'curse' just the same as him and his sexuality had nothing to be with that.
Aye helped Thua accept himself and Thua should have known better how to respond and respect others in the same situation.
Nothing justified that sh!tty behaviour.

I didnt read the novel, but I think it could be possible... I'm starting to feel Chadok is just as bad as he is shown, not more. He is kind of another victim of the school strict norms.
So, Thua is quite suspicious. He was the first person at school Aye told he was gay... probably he was curious about that.

1) It’s fiction. 2) It’s a question of attitude and perspective. The good guy will ultimately convince the…
1) It is. So?
It's been massively confirmed fictional filming material had been used to mold collective thought since its creation. It is not an innocent story. It's both representation and creation of culture at the same time.
2) Right. That's what the author wants to present, behind a horrible attitude we may find a good person. It teaches the unaware mind if a person is misbehaving, harransing, hurting, disrespecting or violating our safety... we should be happy to ha e their attention, be patient and we will eventually find love.
Well, that's crap. That's not love, behind a horrible attitude, there's a horrible person.
And... What the hell are you talking about? Women, victimhood, men, defilement? Men overcome obstacles? Are you differentiating people's behaviour by gender and sexuality? Are you serious? I thought the debate could go on the content of the show... I'd never thought I'd find such retrograde opinions disguised with progression in a BL comment section.

Really?
REALLY?
I dropped this series after the first/second ep (cant remember) when the rapey based relationship started to flower.
Then read some comments about a second story, different POV, deep topics and decided to give it a try.
I just watched episode 9...
REALLY!?
A kid suffering post traumatic stress disorder, apparently after being victim of a rape, clearly refused to start a relationship with the ML. Then this person follows him to his dorm, makes people supposed to secure the place give him daily gifts, changes his phone number several times after it being blocked, talks to his friends to have intimate information.... I thought this was too much when the kid cries in the middle of the night asking him to leave him alone when receiving unstoppable msg and calls.
But no, there's still more.
The stalkery ML spends the night with him, when he is sick!!
F#CKING REALLY!!??
He gets into his bed, embraces him, touches him, even tries to kiss him (which he didnt, but not because it is inappropriate, unethical or simply ILLEGAL, because he promised his friend... WTF).
Meanwhile the sick kid suffering PTSD after a violation thinks he is sleeping with his father... I was with no words. At the end ML explains he changed his clothes, bedding, so practically stripped him.
But the worst part of all is the comment section... people thinking he is lovely, caring, romantic.
So I decided to write this.
We, women/LGBTQNB+, need to stop this culture of harrasment and romanticalization of violence, abuse and rape.

It is very interesting that this series has escaped censorship.... Dictatorial systems, repression, collaborationism,…
It's an amazing story.
Only thing I can think about is this series should have had a different director... nothing personal against Golf but Anucha would have rocked this up. Such a waste.

Because there's no curse!
There are many problems with this series, I agree. However, the story is not one of them.
It's a psychological drama, no fantasy, no horror, no thriller.
It's been already cleared there's no curse but it's a way of manipulating the students. So hard that even the prefects leader materialised it himself by creating the attacks, and now there's somebody else, probably Mo, doing the same who is a lot more violent and dangerous.
Come on, guys/gals/NB, think outside the box and pay more attention!!

Dont get me wrong, I also thought this series was gonna be much better.
I dont like many directing decisions and almost the whole script.
But the story is interesting, the characters are beautiful and I would have loved to see these actors in a better developed production.
About the 21st century comment, unfortunately, it doesnt mean anything... our societies, even the most progressive, still need to evolve even more. I mean, a girl was killed for not covering his hair 'properly' in a middle east country a few weeks ago.
Many topics as sexuality, sexual identity or gender are not a treated respecfully anywhere as a whole.

I understand your point of view, but I think it's overreacted.
It's not just a school. It's a school with historical prestige for wealthy families expecting it to make gentlemen from their sons.
Immersed in Thai culture, but very similar to other stories set in other countries.
In several moments, families were talked about:
- Akk's parents think his son in that school gives their family a higher standard.
- Ayan's mom wanted him out but let him chose.
- Thua's stepfather wants the school life to make him more masculine as it happened to him, a former bullied.
- Wat's parents sent him there so he studies Laws at Uni.
- The three main members of The World Remembers are also against their families. They mention them in a conversation when talking about changing the system.
The directors dont call their families because they want to show the adults they can handle the situation, which actually was mention several times.
I dont know if the school is the 'country', but we must admit thatt when we are teenagers, school life is everything for us. It seems stupid for outsiders, but changing the school system could mean a big fight for starters. Even more if it's a school they are trapped in because their parents are forcing them.

I hope it helps you understand.

I've said this below, but I will reiterate my point. I love First, and he is one my favorite actors in BL, but…
I think it's not the only problem this series has had, a few nice shots dont save a drama with many directing and script problems.
In hands of a good director, these background, plot, characters and actors would have made a fantastic series.

No.
The rapist should be charged criminally and sent to prison.
