so bad its good until it becomes just bad

i was mostly watching this for the trainwreck and i didnt really expect any good resolutions but i was still floored by how bad it ended up being. the first half is at least some kind of messy fun, but the further it goes, the more wattpad-y the writing got... none of the characters are worth rooting for, none of the stories are worth seeing to the end, although i suppose it ends exactly like you would expect it to from such a middling show. it really feels like fanfiction that has weird things happen every chapter that gets updated weekly to keep the readers clicking and reading lmao. first's acting carries and bostonnick had some fun moments for a while, but eventually even that can't carry the show anymore. still i hope first gets some actual good script one day i will be tuning in

strong premise that gets forgotten in barely half an hour

the first episode is so strong, perhaps too strong - starting with marital rape in front of your wife's sworn brother + the ML refusing to inter her corpse is insane work - and in eps 2-3 that situation gets reversed as the FL gets the social upper hand and abuses him back as a slave, knowing his phobias and using it against him.

however, this is the best that it ever gets. characters have no internal consistency, the whole drama turns from a gritty revenge story into a idol romance drama slop from episode 5 onwards :( i feel like it could have been saved had she actually stabbed him in episode 13 and realized that she cannot move on from her past but nope. years of boundless, aggressive abuse, forgotten in seconds.

he landou is a good actress that i enjoyed in AJTL and deng xiaoci is insanely beautiful as usual though so i was still having fun just looking at his face. and it was still entertaining in a "good so bad" short drama way at times, such as the running joke of yan hui somehow not recognizing sang li in the world's most paper-thin disguise, and at times the action scenes rule. the overall plot, however, is probably done way better in full form dramas like story of kunning palace

tl;dr had some juice starting off, wasted it immediately, not worth watching unless you really like one of the actors like i do

what did i even just watch

man i need to watch something where the story is coherent and makes goddamn sense. i feel like i am not asking for much. watched this solely for cha woongki and coming off with the feeling that i thoroughly wasted my time

the good:
- the cast is very cute, nobody really sticks out to me as a bad actor or anything like that, the vibes are nice
- i do like the videogames transmigration premise
- i liked the soundtrack
- there's a certain dreamlike quality to the way the drama is shot

the bad:
- literally everything else
- the character motivations are extremely conflicting. myungha understands that he went back in time to help yeowoon yet then balks confusedly when yeowoon starts liking him back? wasn't this something you were working towards??? yeowoon starting to like him also doesn't add up whatsoever besides just he oughta since he is the ML. i felt nothing but utter confusion watching them kiss for the first time. the love scenes are very cute but like they are only cute out of context! in the actual drama i feel like none of it is earned whatsoever!
- same goes for other characters, they just appear out of nowhere and seemingly have no internal lives of their own. this could almost be meta considering this is a videogame transmigration story, except it mostly seems to be the writers' inability to write a coherent plot. i am actually infuriated by the waste of my damn time
- the age gap is wholly unnecessary and very uncomfortable. was the author trying to appeal to the 30/18 crowd? feel like this is an extremely bizarre way to go about it though? sua even stresses several times that myungha treats yeowoon like a child or a younger brother like... unless this is appeal to incest likers, but then like, why even bother with plausible deniability, write your brocon story elsewhere
- ditto for the bullying scene where myungha kisses the bully this was weird asf also like the way neither the bully nor the stalker or whatever have any relevance or weight in this drama Just like anything else in it

god i really hated it. this might be the worst thing i've watched, at least other "so bad its good" BLs had compelling, even if infuriating at times, relationships going for them. i am sorry revenged love and only friends for thinking you were bad. i now understand it could be even worse. even cha woongki cannot save this

i only watched this for syh

i have no expectations for youth dramas that feel like theyre meant for a short format (tho this one is 30 mins per ep) but this was kinda... tragically bad? i'm curious if they even bothered taking more than one take of the scenes, at some points i swear i could see dai yanni (FL) corpsing lmao. BUT sun yinghao (hua chi) looked spectacular and served looks in every frame so can i truly say it was bad?
