I agree, I also have low expectations for P'Golf after some of his series but I think that last part of your comment mainly comes down to the tropes and story/character trends in the BL industry. Whether it be BL dramas or series Y novels. You know how like the earlier BLs had a tendency to all cover such similar top/bottom couple dynamics and plot events.
The majority of BLs are based on novels anyways so I don't really think that's up to the director either.
