This is super entertaining. KHY hard carries this at first with how she easily jumps from silly to serious in the beginning moments, and really makes you invested in her story. I especially loved how hilarious her meta commentary is as she points out how cliche and terrible some romantic scenes are as she's forced to go through them. I fell in love with JGJ, LJW, and RW's characters too. These four are the absolute standouts especially Kyung in the latter half who I found way more interesting than Haru with his acting and writing. To be honest, Kyung/LJW was the main reason I even continued till the end.

The first half of this was a 10/10 for me, however, it gets really repetitive in the second half with repeated amnesia plots, boring hand grabs, and it becomes less about the fantasy and about the love triangles. Kyung was my absolute favourite character by the end, even though Haru is meant to be more likeable. I had to fast forward a lot in the second half because some plots became too unnecessarily serious and draggy, and I think there should have been more focus on answering questions about the fantasy. There were a lot of unanswered questions about who the writer is, the portals that were appearing, Ju Da's role in this, etc. Very unsatisfying, happy ending. A lot of wasted potential but still worth watching!

Very fun and entertaining, but it felt like a drag when it got into more serious parts. It's a lot more enjoyable when it keeps it's comedy and continues to play it whimsical. I also think the bromance between these 4 was the highlight, and the romance was terribly done. This drama could have cut the romance altogether, and it would have been perfect. I'm a huge fan of the main cast's acting performances, except Sun Joo's (PYC). I'm not a SJK fan, but I have to agree that he adds so much life to the drama with his cheeky interactions with the others of the main cast.

The 2nd ML syndrome is very BIG with this one. I don't mind serious characters, but I really thought the acting for Sun Joo was bland, and the relationship between him and the FL was really forced. I also grew to really dislike his character when he started getting violent and taking his frustration out on the FL after he got jealous seeing the FL and the 2nd ML together. This was when the 2nd ML was just helping the FL out with something, and Sun Joo already had a fiancee. I just don't see any reason for the FL to pursue him like she does over the 2nd ML (wonderfully played by Yoo Ah In), who she has a much more comfortable relationship with, and who supports her so much from the shadows and openly. Their relationship seems really shallow, and I think it's really unfair that she never even finds out about the 2nd ML's feelings or that he's been supporting her from behind, because he backs out after seeing she has feelings for Sun Joo. I really love relationships to develop naturally, but here, there was none of that and the romance was just unnecessary anyways. Just an excuse to add drama and drag out the episodes.

It seems like that. All four of the leads are involved in some kind of a scandal. 😔😢
I've always suspected SJK to be pretty shady, considering he seems like he used SHK for his PR and promotions, and then he just suddenly dropped a divorce on her while she was away. He even mentioned wanting to end it quick without people blame-calling, which is a pretty clear sign that he was at fault, and it wasn't just "differences in personality." I used to be a fan, but he shows really pathetic behaviour. He also almost instantly introduced and announced his current wife's pregnancy too quickly (most likely cheated on SHK), who he again began to love-bomb in every sentence on the air for the same PR and promotions. Plus a lot of good people in the industry who used to be his long-time friends have abandoned him. Stuff definitely happened behind the scenes.

The Yoo Ah In streak continues.....

This is so underrated for me. I loved this! Both the ML and FLs are fantastic actors with incredible chemistry. This is my first time watching Kim Tae Hee, and I think she nailed her role perfectly. She starts off as an innocent girl who makes clothes with the hope of bringing happiness to others, but she falls in love, and continues to faces more misfortunes one after another because of her social standing. She gets cornered an endless amount of times before she realizes she can't be with her love without more power, and she is forced to become colder and more calculating as she fights against everyone's social prejudice to be with the King and protect her mother. I found Kim Tae Hee portrays her character, with really great emotional expressions that make you feel sympathy for her, but also give you chills when her seemingly innocent smile hides something darker. She's terrifying, but so pitiful at the same time, which also makes the chemistry between her and YAI (King) so strong, The king starts off as more innocent, and a love-struck ruler, but as the story unfolds, we see the ambition and cunning he hides beneath the surface. He's created preparations for the sake of his grand ambitions for the people from when he was young, and despite his sometimes cruel and sly nature, his heart is in the right place, and he's always looking out for the people. He's terrifying, but pitiful in his own way. The powerful moments of these two are really conveyed through the wonderful OST, as well as the acting, and the way the frames are shot. Absolute power couple!

Now while the drama begins with a focus on fashion, it does quickly dive into the political struggles and faction battles that disrupt the king's plans over many years. This can get dragged out, and a little tiring, and repetitive for those not interested enough in the politics, but I was so invested in the morally grey side characters and seeing the character development and plot through that I didn't mind. It's usually about JOJ dealing with the other consorts or the factions in order to seize more control in the palace, and about the king using his smarts to navigate these challenges as well as his own dealing with the factions that oppose his major decisions. In this interpretation of Jung Ok Jung, she stands by his side as his political partner and lover, determined to gain enough power to support him as an equal. However, she does have her fall from grace, with a little bit of redemption by the end. I hadn’t looked up any historical context before watching, so I was shocked to learn that many of the cliche story events were actually based on real history, so I won't really criticize those. Of course, some parts were altered, as with most historical dramas, so Jung Ok Jung’s ending is written much more bittersweet with a little redemption here compared to what history records.

How is Ok Jung's character in this drama? I wonder if both dramas, Dong Yi and Jang Ok Jung are like Wei Ying…
Portrayed very well! However, remember it is a different interpretation of history. By the end, JOJ does have a little redemption, so the ending doesn't make her out to be as evil as she supposedly was mentioned. She starts off very kind and humble before she falls in love and gets cornered for her low social class in trying to be with the King.

Hey, nice to see you again! I just finished this movie, and I was about to write a review before I saw yours.…
So I get that the U.S. is the biggest contributor to the IMF, which naturally gives it more voting power and influence over decisions. That part makes sense. But I still feel like the movie just leans way too hard into being Anti-American, like it kind of unfairly paints the U.S. as the only villain behind the IMF and the financial crisis, when the IMF is made of multiple economies and contributors. Decisions are supposed to be made collectively, but the movie portrays it as though America pulled all the strings and everyone else just followed along. Anyone not educated on the IMF will naturally be led into Anti-American sentiment after watching this. It's not a big deal to me, but I just think that without any definitive conclusion, the movie is politically finger-pointing at the US unnecessarily.

Hey, nice to see you again! I just finished this movie, and I was about to write a review before I saw yours. There's nothing I can even add on to it. I couldn't have said it better how powerful and dominant KHS and YAI play their roles here. I only had a problem with how the writers made this Anti-American for no reason, as I did further research and found no mention of US involvement in the 1997 financial crisis. Other than that, this movie kept me on the edge of my seat the full 2 hours. 10/10 for me as well! The Yoo Ah In streak continues...

Yoo Ah In is truly the chungmuro of his generation. I can't think of any other male actors that would even come close to portraying his characters as naturally well as he does. Every other actor I've seen seems to always be conscious that they're acting, but YAI transforms himself for every movie/drama that it leaves me unable to recognize whether he is even acting or not. Anyways, with legends like YAI and LBH, this movie was bound to become a success. I enjoyed learning about the history of these two incredible real-life players, and I felt very touched and emotional by the end. Well, the Yoo Ah In streak continues...

This is the literal definition of a psychological thriller. The story provides no true evidence for us to come to a conclusion about what exactly happened, but the movie purposely frames everything Ben says into suspicions from Jong Soo's POV. This traps the watcher into Jong Soo's mind, and escaping what Jong Soo believes becomes tough as we're fully led into his mindset and prejudice of Ben. Jong soo ultimately ended up doing the exact thing he criticized Ben for, without having real evidence on whether his theory was correct or not. This movie is definitely not for everyone, but I absolutely loved it.
On Secret Love Affair Aug 24, 2025
Blown away by how much I loved this. I tend to dislike age-gap romances, especially ones this big, but this drama will forever hold a special place in my heart. This also isn't really an affair, when you consider how the FL and her husband only have a marriage of convenience for their social benefit. Anyways, I couldn't have pick better actors to kill the challenging roles of the ML and FL like YAI and KHA did with so much great chemistry. This was really well-written, and the casting was impeccable all around. The classical music playing in the background really set the tone for every intense or emotional scene, and even the way scenes are shot really brought the whole drama to life. This follows very real but flawed characters, through very subtly crafted character interactions that give them so much realism, especially the side characters of which I grew to love so many. The relationship between the FL and ML also plays out in such a mature and believable way, but I did almost drop this early in because of how immature the ML seemed at first. However, the drama really picks up quickly with his and the FL's development, and you can see them grow to find a companion in one another that they really need. I especially love the FL's development, with how she becomes fully self-aware by the end. That only after finding that companion in Sung-jae did she realize how wrongly she had been living her life, ruining her life as a teenager and adult with nothing but greed and ambition. That final speech of hers left me feeling very cold, but it couldn't have been said better. Do be prepared for a very bittersweet, but fitting ending. I only wish the final episode could have been stretched more.

Well, my Yoo Ah In streak continues...but I will ALSO be checking out more of Kim Hee Ae's work!

It's definitely a time sink to test and feel out a new drama, so I can understand what you mean. You shouldn't feel forced to invest time in trying something that doesn't grab your attention. Now that you've mentioned this, I'm not sure I can recommend Chicago Typewriter anymore. I'm a very patient watcher, who doesn't mind spending time really getting invested and interested in a drama and it's characters. I've watched dramas with 20+ episodes, and I've really grown to love them as my all-time favourites, even if there are many parts that I wish were cut out. I do feel Chicago Typewriter is one of the better-paced dramas I've ever watched, but I can't be sure it will appeal to you. I'm not sure you're into sports politics and business, but I will highly recommend Hot Stove League (16 episodes) if you are looking for a longer drama which grabs your attention from Episode 1, with it's fast pacing and extremely tight character and plot writing.

So is he going to continue working in kdrama and movies?
His recent success with The Match has already convinced people to accept him back into the movie industry, at least. I don't think his scandals will affect him as much anymore. Plus, that whole 1 year sentence for drugs is so ridiculous, when SA is such a lesser crime in Korea.

Sixteen freaking hours?Love Yoo but any story that takes that long to tell can't be worth hearing.
Very few dramas really make 16+ episodes of content work, but there are plenty that do. Highly recommend Chicago Typewriter for another of Yoo's works. Not a single episode or moment feels wasted in there. The drama clearly builds up everything it needs to without slowing down, and ends off with a banger finale that the writers, director, and producer clearly planned for from the beginning.

I really regret holding this drama off so long. My god is this intense and hilarious at times. Absolute emotional rollercoaster! The writing is so tight with incredible performances from the actors, and this is all backed by a beautiful OST (I could listen to Satellite 24/7) and cinematography. I really love the main trio so much. I don't think they could have picked better actors or written the characters any better. They have such a great chemistry! ALSO YOO AH IN THE ACTOR YOU ARE! I especially wish YAI would have got an award for his amazing standout double role acting. The differences between his past and present characters are so subtle, but he switches from one to the other so seamlessly that he makes it look incredibly easy. I was a lot more invested in the past, mainly because of how he brings both his characters' growth alive through his incredible acting. It's like just through his gaze alone, you can tell instantly who is who. I've instantly become a huge fan of the talent he brings as an actor, and am now going down a rabbit hole watching his other mesmerizing performances in dramas and movies. He is easily one of the most devoted actors I've seen, and I am so glad he's making a comeback! Apparently the subway scene was even inspired by his own real life, when he was struggling as a young actor, and an old lady cheered him up with food.

Now this does have a slow start, but I highly recommend sticking till Ep 4 at least before dropping it, because things only ramp up more and more. This is one of those few dramas where it's clear that the director, writers, and producers all had a common vision from the start and they fearlessly and faithfully followed it till the end. EPISODE 15 IS ONE OF THE SINGLE GREATEST EPISODES I'VE SEEN IN A LONG TIME and the way it all perfectly comes together with the character development, the plot twists, backed by an amazing OST is just so beautiful that I have no words to describe it. This deserves a lot more attention.

Title My Dearest
Super disappointing ending. Overall an almost masterpiece of a drama and top tier in every category, especially with acting and cinematography, but this ending left so much to be desired. It was super rushed with the conclusion of key characters like RE neglected, the annoyingly repeated amnesia trope, and lots of plot holes with the timeline that the writers didn't care to think about it when going for a really emotional ending to try and make you forget all the glaring mistakes. I have no regrets about watching this, and I feel all the awards are well deserved. The chemistry is insanely good between NKM and AEJ and I'm glad they got the best couple's award! Wish I could see them act together again. I also have even more respect for NKM as I didn't believe he could pull off romance too, but this may be his best performance for me, with hot stove league coming in second. I also loved that the FL was treated right with the drama, and she wasn't a complete damsel in distress, but became much stronger mentally and resilient to her circumstances. One of the best love stories I've watched.
