I don't get why she still wanted to end her life after all the closure she got with the help of repear ML. She got closure with ML's mother, finding out that she doesn't resent her or blame her, with ML finding out as well that he doesn't resent her, more than that, he wants for her to live on and be happy. She still has her father and her sister to live for and her just ending herself for me that would be the ultimate disrespect for ML, like why did he even had to die for then? So she lives on after the incident, even dates ML's friend for awhile, then all of a sudden after all the years passed, we find out that she never moved on, she's still grieving, living in guilt and depressed. So ML shows up as the repear, helps her get closure and try to make her realise that nobody blames her and she should forgive herself and keep on living. With all that, she figures out that after all that time she still can't live on without him and tries to end herself, what were the repear's attemps for then, i've thought they were meaningful and she realised something. In episode 5 we find out that if a grim repear intervene about ''what's written on the roll'' he is vanished forever from existence, like the grim repear in the story they told when the repears we're sitting near the tree. They said his daughter lived but they don't know for how much long, hinting that her faith is bound to happen even though she was saved that time. So repear Park is vanished from existence and can never see his daughter again. So he had been able to see her again if he had let her faith taken place. So in the end ML shows up when she tries to jump and just like that he makes her reconsider and change her mind, did he do something different this time than the last time they talked in the episode? That's him intervining though. We could at least got some sort of happy or satisfactory ending if he didn't do that and we knew that he can live on in a way or another even as a repear. But how i understand it, is that he was sacrificed once again this time on his own will, so she can still live on, but for how long we don't know, because his sacrifice will be in vain if what's written on the roll is still bound to happen. How will she feel if she knew that he sacrificed again for her? Am i supposed to feel moved by his sacrifice and be happy that she lives on after all his attemps to convince her? Unsatisfying ending to this story for me, they just wanted to write a sad ''realistic'' ending but if you do that at least make it a worthy and meaningful sacrifice.
I liked the first 2 episodes, i saw potential, but soon after nothing made sense for me. I felt tricked about rooting in the beggining for one of the leads, thinking there is more to it and soon i'll understand them and their actions will make sense later on. But no, it didn't make any sense. She was so set on about not doing the surgery and how much she hated him just for him to say some magical words when they talked on the ship : ''i never hated you and i enjoyed so much working with you'' and that was her switch, all the buildup those episodes where she was dead set upon not doing the surgery just for her to be flipped . So in the second part i felt confused, what i was supposed to do now? Root for this ''emotional, heartwarming'' reconciliation between these 2 ''genius'' murderers; Was i suppose to be touched about their story and the murderers they were willing to do for each other? Because i wasn't. He didn't make sense to me, i didn't connect with his reasoning that ''He has to break her in order for her to be next level surgeon''. He risked his life and was ready to die for what? Just to prove something to her or make her next level surgeon? Because he failed, she still made it and proved him wrong. Was his plan to be martyred? He showed psychopathic and narcistic traits but i still didn't buy his character. I didn't understand her character as well, she wasn't the typical psychopath, she still showed emotions when she thought her dogs were dead. So why she killed so easily without remorse? In the end i felt like i wasted my time on something that wanted to be some complex and sophisticated psychological drama, which it wasn't. If i found something interesting about this drama is the somewhat original plot, but that's all to it.
It's rare to get a kdrama these days without the usual kdrama tropes, cringe cliches and not lastly the forced/manufactured unatural or over the top drama. Mr. Plankton had such an original and unique vibe to it. Good writting, good acting, emotional story, good cinematography. My favorite drama of 2024 with The Atypical Family coming close second place. I could skip all the others drama of 2024 but not these.
I've enjoyed a decent good first half but after that it started to fell off for me. The action scenes were ridicolous and didn't make sense, especially last episodes, i think this show wanted to be everything: comedy, action, romance, mistery but it didn't excel at anything, other than the somewhat original story. Chairwoman was written to be unhinged but she ended up beeing cringe most of the time. Last episodes were poorly written and the resolve was unsatisfactory.
I don't see where this is going with the plot, some actions don't make sense. They keep trying to dig stuff on each other. He has already seen her near 2 dead bodies, and could had turn her in if he wanted to. He didn't try to blackmail her with the kills to try to get the surgery yet he closed her pharmacy to get her attention. And then she's digging stuff on him for what? To confirm her hunch or be on equal footing. But like i said he could had turn her in if he wanted in the first time he saw her near a body when they both were working at the hospital, not just now when he needs the surgery, but he didn't. Now let's say she confirms he did it with clear evidence and rubs it in his face, then what? Is her goal to prove he's a hypocrite or prove he's also a murderer like her, what's her goal with her obsession? And why is he hanging near those detectives investigating the nurse murderer, he already knows it was her, just to protect her because he needs her? Also she tries to get back at him with the award mini plot because she hates him so much, but in the last scenes of ep. 4 she says something like ''i could had do it for you if you asked me, i wouldn't let you get blood on your hands''. After all the stuff that happened it looks like she still idolize him. While i didn't felt bad for her first 2 victims showed, it would shift my perception of her if she would kill for him random people he hated. What i also noticed is that her first killing, the guy in the buss, she got off after him and followed him so the story she told deok hui that he followed her and was self defense was probably not true or there's more to it. And it looks like he'll kill detective Lee. While you could make a case for her, that the people she killed were not ''so good'' and still root for her, his murders seems out of selfishness and he hates the idea of getting caught by her, by contrast she didn't looked that affected when caught by him or revealing her true self.
I've kinda lost interest in the last episodes. They still tried to keep it engaging by making up drama out of thin air but it felt forced. So much emphasis was put on their background and story as teenagers, and how big of a secret and deal it was what happened then, but the resolve was disappointing. She was the only one still feeling bitter about it and he was ok with it after he found out. It doesn't make sense at all for them to not beeing over what happened 10 years ago when they were teenagers, and keep talking about that defining moment later on like its still a big part of their current life. But if they made such a big deal out of it, what was all of it for? So after she found out she told him he's ''just a kid'' and what can he do forh er only for her to realise half an episode later that she actually loves him and to rush to his place.. Even grandma had her redemption after all the evil stuff she said and done, like saying some words is going to make up for how she treated him through out most of his childhood and making a child belive his at fault for his parents death. This drama doesn't stand out for me, same ever repeating tropes and cliche : childhood connection, ''only worth of loving chaebols/elitists'', ML showcasing his social status and networth, rural area retreatments, evil chairman/woman.
The high rating of this show is really interesting. I've seen alot of shows rated 8 or little above 8 with good writting, cinematography, OSTs and storry. So i guess this show was ''cool'' and had the popular highschool setting , included alot of anime like fights so it got to be highly rated? This is what's popular these days so what can you do, i guess alot of teenagers watched this and thought it was super cool! I would not have a problem if it was a superhero movie from the start and marked as fantasy but it started as real life setting and it became more and more ridicolous with cartonish physics and anime style fights. You must either abandon all logic before starting this or tell yourself that the action is happening in an alternate universe to make sense of it, where kids rules the world, there is no media, smartphones, law or police forces. Not a single entity in the show is allowed that could distrurb the main focus of the show, that is the cartonish cool fights. So writers, take notes, if you want a 9+ rating show just include a highschool settings and alot of anime style fights, guess good writting is not needed anymore.
Does this have heavy politics happening in hospital or just medical stuff?
I would say it's not heavy politics. ML Dr. is supported by the Minister of Health so anytime he has a conflict with the hospital director or other higher ups he plays the ''minister got my back card''. So no politics just internal hospital management stuff, who are between ML and hospital director and other higher ups who doesn't like the ML either because of his character or because his trauma department(he is in charge of) draws alot of money and demands more funding.
LOL! Is it like that? I've just started, and I thought they'll stop with the Dr batman on his batmobile in the…
I found that scene ridiculous as well, they could just show him in a war zone with bombs and shootings in the background at some still relatively close distance from him while he rides his bike to a patient, that was highly reckless of him but i guess the writter wanted to highlight and portray him as in many other scenes as a great and selfless Dr. that puts his patients always first. Well they stop with that Dr. Rambo stuff untill the last episode where there is a very short car shooting scene where Dr. Superhero endangeres his medical staff to save a patient who was in the car and needed imediate treatment. Most of the episodes took place in the hospital(with some helicopter rides and on site missions) and are about trauma cases with surgeries performed by Super Hero Dr. Baek, he is portrayed as a super skilled doctor that can perform with full confidence any type of complex surgery in any medical field and in record time while making no mistakes and making any Dr. around him look like a complete amateur, stealing the spot lights on numerous occasions throughout the show. Eventhough everything goes his way and other characters in this show are there as a tool to portray how great the ML is, the show is engaging and you won't get bored. I found it ridiculous at times but i didn't get bored as it's a fast paced show where something always happen.
''....but from the begging we see our ML speed running a warzone dodging bombs and explosions left and right.…
They could just show him riding his bike with explosions or a background of a warzone a little more far away not neceseraly bullets and bombs firing near him one after another like he has a target on his head but it doesn't matter anyway because writer has his back. Writer wanted to highlight how great and admirable he is that he's puting his life in danger and defying any high probability that he could be killed by a bomb or bullet there. That was just reckless. But that's on me, it's a personal preference, i like more realistic shows with original writting and story telling that doesn't rely on making someone extraordinary and have anything going his way just from the pen, or making someone extremely rich, super handsome CEO or a heir to make for a story.
I was really surprised that in last episode Super Hero Baek didn't perform surgery on himself! Or wake up in the middle of Jae Won performing surgery on him, and continue himself from there if Jae Won didn't knew what to do next. Maybe one of the few chances missed in this show by writter to make Super Hero Baek even more godly.
he didn't have 100% rate and based on a REAL good doctor and written by another real doctor
''based on a REAL doctor'' doesn't mean much to be honest, that doesn't mean that each event depicted in the series took place, with exact types of surgery, difficulty level and time in which they were performed. I can belive there was a real doctor Baek with a tatoo on his hand that was in some peace organisation and treated people in syria or was in some private army in afganistan and then came back to south korea to work in a hospital, eventhough i didn't find much info online about him. But that's about how far it goes.. the rest of the events are all hyped up and exagerated for cinematic value and to make them interesting for the ''in search of extraordinary seeking viewer''. It's just that people love SUPER HEROES and producers/writers know that, it's entertaining right? Usual people are boring :( Never mind... i read more into it and i retract what i've said. Dr. Baek is a fictional character created by novel writer Dr. Lee Nak Jun also known as Hansanleega, so the writer has medical background but Dr. Baek character is entire fictional. Even with the writer beeing a real Dr. ; Liver transplant in 30 minutes? Please, even the most straightforward liver transplant takes place in at least 6 hours.
Made it to ep.5 but...at this point, why didn't the writters just make him god, shoot laser through his eyes and walk on water as well. Well.. i don't mind an over powered written character as long as i know i'm watching a fantasy drama, but from the begging we see our ML speed running a warzone dodging bombs and explosions left and right. Just lucky i guess, right? So the writters working overtime on this character to make him as cool as possible.. He EVEN pilots an HELICOPTER making the Pilot-in-command look like an amateur, that for some reason gives him the controls of his helicopter. AMAZING! I screamed out loud ''HOW COOL IS THIS GUY!'' I guess everyone is a sucker for such a character in kdrama land... it just works as everyone is in awe and producers know this. So our ML is an all knowing all mighty trauma surgeon, who does open heart surgeries, brain surgeries, also an orthopedic surgeon who casually enters the operation room and cracks the case while the orthopedic surgeon performing, making him look like an amateur. Guess our ML had to be the star of the show in this instance as well. No chance making him look cool is wasted in this show! He is everywhere! One of the ''antagonists'' has something on him and he's ready to reveal... Writters on HIGH ALLERT WATCH followed by high urgency meeting! ''How do we get him out of this but on the same time still make him look even cooler?'' ''Even cooler than that? Is that possible? ''YES'' says one of the writters: Let's randomly introduce the ''antagonists'' daughter in the ecuation and randomly make her suffer a sudden severe life threatening accident. Sure thing!'' Transfer her to the same hospital as well not a different one, is has to be this one! Said and done. So invoking the case's severity and urgency, ML performs once again open heart surgery denying patient's father wishes, as well as an opinion/intervention from cardiothoracic surgeon who's only role was to be there and confirm ML's greatness and hypothesis in awe, ''IT'S HEART RUPTURE INDEED''. But everything works out in the end when the ML surgeon is written with a 100% sucess rate. Also every Surgeon and MD in this drama is in full NPC mode, so ML can shine brighter than a quasar. Some MDs in this show even straight up refuse responding to calls trying to dodge urgencies which is hard to belive they can legitimately do in a field like medicine. Even Dr. Han the head of general surgery looks like a complete amateur when performing surgery with the ML apparently not knowing to do basic stuff, becomes increasingly nervous behaving like a junior in his first surgery, what a joke. So judging on how well recieved and how highly rated this drama is, i suppose they must be doing something right. It's just not my idea of a well written story or characters.
that he's puting his life in danger and defying any high probability that he could be killed by a bomb or bullet there. That was just reckless.
