this taiga, especially in the second part ot it, is very grim and bleak (fortunately! because this is what i'm looking for in taigas and they rarely deliver). i was impressed how they made this whole series basically Koshiro and Masako's love story. from womb to tomb. he killed her children, and she forgave. she decided to follow him in death...
Ye Qingmei is such a mary sue, and FX is marty stu. Idk how yall take them and their fans (aka half of other characters) seriously. This blind worship makes the show annoying.
If i disregard that princes' characters are inconsistent and don't resemble themselves from 1 season, this show is alright. Fan Xian has more love chemistry with literally everyone, men and women, than with his chicken maiden. But actually there is even more mismatched pairing - second prince and new Ye Linger. these two look dumb and incompatible when they even simply stand next to each other.
Zhou Luo was a "science" guy but after he met Nan Ya, he fell in love with art and beauty. He is willingly to…
i'll add that Xu Yi really gambled his life for Nan Ya - he killed for her, he literally "won her in a fight", they have a murder secret between them so they're bound together forever in every way. That's an epic start of a relationship. And then it gets lackluster - his family doesn't accept her, Nan Ya dares to be withdrawn and doesn't fulfill his fantasies of a perfect wife, he probably felt like he did bet everything and lost. And lashed out on her. He is a violent man, but he was interesting character.
i really can't calm down. Nan Ya suffered from men (and misogynistic women too) her whole life, she was raped, beaten, humiliated all the time, she had all moral right to kill her abusers and anyone who has compassion in his heart would know that and if there's a chance to make it self-defence would gladly take it and help this woman. anyone except these disgusting cops - old buffoon protecting his mad dog of a daughter and pathetic loser who's jealous of Zhou Luo because he's everything he'll never be - devoted, passionate, brave. LFL will never have Nan Ya and seeing all her misery he happily drowns her deeper, and then has an audacity to shed crocodile tears? If anyone had to get killed in this show it's him, i didn't even hate Xu Yi THIS much (i hated him but i understood what he's coming from). I also want to disagree with those who commented that Zhou Luo's bright future is somehow destroyed. Guys, he never had it. It's common to mistake high IQ for "recipe for success". But it's not, often it's the opposite. Succeed people who have great social skills. Zhou Luo doesn't, he's impulsive, straightforward, blunt, he will never bend down for unjust authority, he doesn't respect hierarchy, he's hot-headed. Idk what you all mean by success, typically it's high paid office job i guess? If so, Zhou Luo is not made for it. he really has soul of a knight or a poet. I think, life with beloved woman worth more for him than all socially-recognized success.
to sum it up - Nan Ya is too beautiful and Zhou Luo is too smart, that's why everyone is hating them with vitriol and trying to bring them down. there's no end to human villainy but LFL is the most vile amd hateful clown there is.
Wish they made a serious taiga of tale of Genji adapting all the chapters, including uji, ukifune for like 52…
by modern law Genji is a criminal, so i doubt it's possible to film all his shenanigans and show it to general audience. and watering them down is also bad. so, the perfect Genji movie is fantasy in our heads.
A Michinaga Taiga would have the exact same character rooster and only little changes since it's a Fujiwara Taiga…
your answer is so level-headed it makes me embarassed of my overemotional comments! this show in general lacks interesting characters (that's abysmal, because historical people they're based on are mind-blowing). i like korechika, and michitaka, and michikane (the harder they tried to make him pathetic the more likeable he became). and it looks like marriage to nobutaka is the best thing that can happen to "mahiro" maybe his affection can make her blossom into sensual woman. because michinaga... is a piece of wet bread. everyone seems to be such a goody two shoes it's annoying.
this gotta be the most boring and bland "taiga" ever. everyone is miscast and lacks charisma. none of these males aint got no game nor attractive looks and they're trying to sell the idea she based prince Genji on one of them? oh and libfem propaganda that all women are besties, even shikibu and shonagon who hated each other. you can watch it 2x faster and it's still slow and meaningless. they should have done Michinaga taiga (with another actor) and make shikibu appear in some episodes, that's more than enough. overall the whole series is simply visually ugly - styling is terrible. everyone, even royals, wears the same clothes for decades, and given all those clothes' are of bright colors that don't go together, it just hurts eyes. everyone has bare, oily faces and greasy hair. i remind you that it's supposed to be Heian era famous for its style, aesthetics and elaborate fashion and makeup! In another Heian show, "Taira no Kiyomori" characters wore ghostly, strange, offputting, wonderful makeup, black teeth, butterfly eyebrows, it added so much to both realism of the show and its vibe of dark fairytale. Here they just give us nothing. If they didn't want black teeth could they at least paint court women in intricate makeup? It was as nesessary as proper dress code and etiquette. And the script that develops like cheap, generic, tired k-drama... This show doesn't have redeeming qualities.
