it looks too much like basic kdrama to my taste. but heian era's appeal is too strong, i'll restrain myself from quitting for now.

idk why you expect historical accuracy from a drama...
to be honest, my main complain here and about any historical series, is - either don't change things, or change them to something better. i can overlook a lot of mistakes if it's interesting. before i watched this taiga i didn't know it's even possible to make such a snooze fest out of Tokugawa's biography. what is your favorite taiga?

the whole point of taiga is historial accuracy. if they wanted soap opera with new invented character with Matsmumoto's face they could just do it. and it's not just me, it's japanese fans as well are saying that this show is trash. it's their history, not a story for any fake woke director to rewrite to whatever way wind is blowing.

It's a really annoying part in Taiga that the 'first love' character nowadays has to be present for an eternity. In…
i understand but i just dislike everything in this year's taiga! they're all like somnambulas! bad script can be fixed by something that ignites spark in viewers, but it's just nothing.
and i didn't feel any first love between sena and ieyasu too. they were paired up in early teens, and liked each other on juvenile and surface level. then he started cheating (in very boring uninspired manner) and she was enduring. ieyasu never liked nobuyasu that much. nobuyasu was just kinda there. for a long time he was the only son that's it. then he went crazy for a second, then went crying to sena "society made me kill a monk!". she said "it's ok it's in the past now. you're changed man compared to what you were second ago". that was literally what happened. someone approved this script.
then the way this show was going they could just say all ieyasu's concubines are lesbians and i would believe. his only emotionally charged moments were with nobunaga.

The script is so bad even the best actors wouldn't do anything with it, and these actors here aren't best. Everyone is miscast. Wet bread Ieyasu who moves through the show like cardboard cutout - without ambition, without hunger for power or for anything. His philandering could be entertaining part but this bland version of Ieyasu doesn't have love or desire for women either. They are either gifted by someone to him or just appear out of nowhere and he's like whatever let her stick around. This whole show lacks passion and charisma.
Nobunaga was fun though. The character has nothing to do with Oda Nobunaga as historical man, but as comic book level character he was cool.

yaoi brothers are the only interesting characters the whole show, actually living by their clan's code in word and in deed. wet bread male mary sue and his crew are insufferable. when realising that someone from their inner circle is a spy who wants to destroy them, their reaction is to cooperate with the spy! these clowns deserve to get extinct. when i read on weibo that seems like director hates ML i wondered what do they mean, but then i saw the show and understood. everytime ML and his brethren try to make yaoi bros look bad for doing the right thing they expose themselves as despicable fools without shame and loyalty. it's really funny

this is typical korean "historical" romance, where nothing is historical except cosplay clothes. queen can't just be with a man and then start being with his lookalike, leads have to stay virginal for each other, so despite being married for years queen refuses to sleep with her husband which is her only job and obviously would get her either raped or divorced in a moment, but this is idol drama so it's ok, big bad king modestly endures this travesty, why would he demand anything or want heirs anyway, right. king himself kinda has many concubines, he doesn't sleep with either of them and it's hard to tell what they're for, to help him get dressed up apparently. why they're filming an era realities of which they can not handle? then in typical korean fashion, in last ep they realise they have to squeeze this saccharine idol show fanfic in the rigid box of historical truth and start doing what seems like live action adaptation of character's wiki pages. main actor is talented though, he should get roles in better films

So? Shingen also killed his son because he didn't want to eradicate his wife clan? Date Masamune killed his younger…
they're indeed selective about what scenes they show with kids, and what they don't. preteen chacha giving love looks to hideyoshi is alright, but him killing her brother isn't? are they going to sell them as power couple?

Why they didn't show Ichi's son in this show though? Boy was beheaded by Hideyoshi on Nobunaga's orders, also Nobunaga apparently drank wine from Azai's skull... Actor would have so much fun with it!

Title Dou Suru Ieyasu Spoiler
I fully agree with you, but to be fair, has this has ever not been the case for taiga drama?More recent ones probably…
you are truly expert in taigas! i went to link you provided and will watch it somehow (not sure if i'll understand without translation). also, have you watched new episode? it was as expected not interesting. but at least they didn't destroy ieyasu/nobunaga bromance (i dislike it, but it keeps this series afloat and it would be lame to end it because of this non-entity sena, who existed to be cheated on and be matsumoto's fans self-insert).

i like Gunshi Kanbei! it has the best Hideyoshi, in my opinion. they absolutely wasted Mori Ranmaru though (and they're gonna do it again in this Ieyasu too - pretty boy many shades paler than anyone else sitting in background is not really satisfying).
i enjoyed watching Fuurin Kazan too, but i can not say how realistic it was, i'm not familiar with those historical prototypes. some moments were strange, but overall it was quality.
where have you watched Hana no Ran and Kusa Moeru? i googled but seems like it's not on the internet.

yes, some whitewashing is nesessary to "sell" the protagonist to audience, but it depends on how good it's done. here it's done very bad. my favorite taiga is "Taira-no Kiyomori" and while he is a bad man there, he is charismatic and full of "vision" and joie de vivre and it makes him likeable even though he still does all crimes that historical person did. here saintly proto-feminist 21century housewife Sena is one of the weirdest choices these writers made, but then again, they went the most uninteresting route with any historical event. it's soap opera - modern characters in cosplay and their laughable attemps to propagate modern values. quality is trash, so is script and acting. if they don't like any of these historical figures and need to rewrite their entire biographies, why make a show about them and not someone else who fits their narrative? but that's the rhetorical question i ask when i watch majority of tv shows. taigas used to have the air of true storytelling and almost educational value. now... it's idol drama level.
i haven't watched Aoi Tokugawa Sandai, but the summary is intriguing, i'll try!

Nobunaga and Hideyoshi are the only ones i like. they're whitewashed too, but not beyond repair like everyone else.

it takes a talent to show tsukiyama incident, one of the most interesting and mysterious moments in ieyasu's story, and make it this boring. the whole series is just one big underwhelming filler episode after filler episode. these writers try too hard to make characters "relatable", they don't know that people watch historical shows specifically because they don't want relatable. if your sengoku era samurais are relatable and easily digested to modern audience you're doing it wrong.

is this show not coming back anymore? ._.
no one knows and who says that knows is lying. don't believe all those gossips at all they're made to sow discord between fans and create even more displeasure with youku. it's well-known tactic to rile fans up and then turn around and pretend that they're "unruly" and "tarninshing actors' reputations with this kind of behavior". let's just watch other dramas for now

If this drama didn't have any romance it wouldn't have been released with all this Bromance scenes and this is…
i'm being a starving danmei fan who just enjoys content and yes, i couldn't care less about this fictional female character. save your outrage for situations where real women are mistreated.

Right now Youku seems to spend all its fortune to promote TTEOTM..totally forgot that previously they used to…
if anything youku has it's audacity. they behaved exactly the same when they deleted Word of Honor series and concert, fans demanded refunds and got absolutely nothing - not money not explanation.
