As a person that has read the webnovel at least 5 times I love love drama adaptation of what most of you I think could agree is 2/3 of the way. I agree with giving the princess and gong sun yin more screen time but not giving more screen time to weiyan and the gray hair goblin to humanize their characters. Yes I love the breakthrough performance of qimin but you cannot make me feel sorry for that sociopath. The same goes for weiyan. Also the alternative is ending was not needed. What was needed was the battle at the end which played out like a massive epic scene in my head between different forces with weiyan taking over the gun and artillery and xiezheng understanding that weiyan is a conniving piece of s*** so he exhausted all measures to let him think that xiezheng was losing, even making fan changyu thinking they were going to lose the battle as well and putting her life on the line for xiezheng again and then gongsunyin coming out of nowhere with the stationed army to overtake everyone. But no, we get a weird mini scuffle with fan chang yu stuck in a bathroom break no where to be found until all was said and done.

There’s actually a lot they left out that they could’ve executed better for sure.

I think the cdrama fandom consists mostly of females (not all) who judge the female actresses much harsher than their male peers. It’s an internalized misogyny that unfortunately society in general has groomed us all in such a way. You would think this drama that focuses on a very strong female lead who becomes a hero by discovering herself through her past would make people support her the actress more but like xie zheng says people are innately evil and justify their cause for whatever reason that props them up while pulling someone else down.

I’ve honestly read this webnovel more than five times and I can tell the director has read this novel front and back. I love that each and every scene that he emphasizes shows the inexplicable connection between FCY and XZ. There are so many motifs that the director includes in the series that I am obsessed with in the novel and I am so appreciative for that. I tried to tamp down my expectations for this drama because I love the web novel so so much but this drama has so far paid homage so beautifully that I have no complaints and can only thank the director, actors, production crew, editing team, etc for what they’ve given us. THANK YOU!

I think it’s good to have one ep a day. Considering how many kiss scenes there’s gonna be, I don’t think my body can sustain that May nosebleeds per day.

I’m gonna be really mad if they cut all the kiss scenes! I mean I’ll still watch it but I just won’t be as happy as I could be.

The web novel definitely has a lot of intimate and emotional scenes between FCY and XZ. I can’t wait for the crying scenes because TXW cries it breaks my heart. She looks like a little puppy you just want to hug and say it’s alright. They are both perfect for their respective roles. Definitely brilliantly casted. It’s gonna be magical and I think a role that will define both their careers imho.
