I know what the controversy is about but what I really find problematic is that I keep seeing people talk about…
In a lot of countries you become an adult when you turn 18. In Korea it is more complicated - you can be considered a minor even at 18 because you need to be 20 in korean age to be considered an adult (so on average you become an adult when you turn 19 in international age). The casting started last year. They got rid of korean age system few years ago (even tho people still use it to this day) but as far as I am aware the age of legal adulthood in Korea is still 19 internationally and we don't know Hangyeol's birthday.
Take this information with a grain of salt. It is just what I saw Koreans were saying. I don’t know how they came to this conclusion since I don’t have any knowledge about the Burning Sun scandal myself.
Thanks, but personally I saw all of this info already and I still stand with the opinion that this is incredibly…
Yes! Everyone is entitled to their own opinions especially since the whole situation is messy so I posted it just to give more context that was hidden from foreign fans to show that it is not at all black and white. Because if Hangyeol claims turn out to be true it would turn out that a lot of people unknowingly supported a person who tried to sex traffic someone maybe even a minor (Hangyeol was supposedly underage when she was casted). So I myself am neutral and wait to see how the story will turn out - maybe new irrefutable evidence will come out or the court decision will be out in favour of RW or HG. And I also wanted to protect Koreans from the xenophobic claims that their society is backwards (therefore “western society is superior”). The reason why Korean tend to have a polarising opinion to foreign fans in lots of scandals is because Koreans actually have access to all the facts unchanged. Foreigns fans will only have access to stuff another fan decided to translate and that person can pick and choose, edit stuff out, misstranslate etc., anything to protect their favourite celebrity. Of course some Koreans hate for no reason but it happens in every country. Koreans are not a monolit. Even Hangyeol in her statement emphasised that she supports sex workers and think they should be able to leave that industry and begin a new life but what she is against is sex trafficking (and in this context she called RW a criminal in their KakaoTalk messenges). Chinese fans have even more tea but sadly I don’t speak chinese so I can’t verify if korean translations are true. And it is interesting that to you it feels like Koreans treat Hangyeol like a child because to me it sounded like they were impressed by her and her intelligence when she is only 19. I myself was impressed how well-written her statements were even though Riwon used to be my favourtie contestant. To me it was foreign fans that treated her like a child and that’s why they didn’t take her accusations seriosuly because “what a child can know she for sure misinterpret RW’s intentions). But it really proves that everyone has their own intepretations so it is hard to say what is the truth. For sure production team should have done a better job. I am confused why would they cast a minor in a dating show with adults in the first place.
I will tell you guys what korean side is saying since some of you can’t speak Korean so maybe it will make it clearer why korean lesbians don’t feel comfortable with having RW included in the show. It is not about her being an alleged prostitute it is about her allegedly recruting women for sex work and trying to do the same with other contestants of that show. Hangyeol in her stategment where she accused RW of trying to pimp her out used the term 식사 데이트 which is a slang term used in Korean sex work. It's commonly used to refer to camgirls meeting up with top donors for dinner and often doing "favors" in exchange for money (in her statement RW said that she attended meals with her top sponsors but it was only meals nothing more). In the kakaotalk messegaes posted by RW we can see Hangyeol texting about RW promise to take her out to meet some billboard guy for a meal to “help her with he music career”. Hangyeol asked her to give her the details about that person to proof that this is not a set up:
Hangyeol: “Tell me the details of the person you will introduce me to. You can’t, can you? Because you change the details of that contact depending on your target”.
In those messages Hangyeol alludes that RW tried to pimp other people out too. RW in those messsages shares the details of that person but of course covers it up before posting on instagram this screenshot. RW did not fully redact the KakaoTalk screenshot and Koreans were able to find out that that person allegedly have been a VIP during the Burning Sun scandal. Koreans also find the company she works for to be shady. They think it is a business to recruit and manage new camgirls (I forgot the details why they think that) but RW in her stategment says that it is just a normal TikTok company. Other people anonymously also posted that RW allegedly tried to recruit them for sex work too. There is actually more why they are so against RW being on the show but I will stop here.
I will continue watching it it is the first korean lesbian dating show after all and korean lesbian community needs any kind of support. Unless the reediting is too unnatural and unbearable to watch...
Why is everyone on hangyeol's ass? And how do yall know they gossiped behind her back?I need answers 😂😂
Riwon in her quickly deleted instagram statement mentioned that other contestants were meeting up to talk behind her back (even before the broadcast). She also posted messages she exchanged with Hangyeol (she covered the name but the name was visible after raising the exposure up) where Hangyeol calls her a criminal (and says that prostitution is illegal in Korea). Hangyeol also made her own statement where she said that Riwon tried to pimp her out but Riwon said it was a misunderstanding and that she would never do it and that she only wanted to travel together (Hangyeol said that she has evidence but will only expose it if legal proceedings arise). And the rumours has it that the show got postponed because Hangyeol wanted her scenes with Riwon edited out (Riwon was the one who told her that she should talk with the production team about reedits if she feels uncomfortable because of their screentime).
I'm confused. Putting Lee Sin aside are you insinuating that having OCD is easy? Depression is actually a really…
No I am not. It seems that your whole knowledge about mental ilnesses is based on stereotypes you can find online. You seem to think that OCD is only about cleaning or organising things if obsessions about murders shocked you that much when they are quite common (once again they are just obsessions the whole point is that they are egodystonic so the only person who suffers because of them is a person with OCD). I know that "narcissist" is the Internet newest buzzword that people use to anybody who they don't like not knowing what this disorder even implies when only 1% to 2% of the U.S. population has narcissistic personality disorder (Weinberg & Ronningstam, 2022). My whole rant was to protect people with mental ilnesses like your brother who you mentioned first (never have I said anything bad about him read again or 5 times if you need to, take your time). I worked at mental hospital, patients told me about their agony, I have seen it too that's why it broke my heart when people instead of helping the weak are making fun of them (even if they don't mean it like that but intentions are just intentions). I give up too. I tried my best but it's hard to talk with people who refuse to get educated on topics they don't know much about when there is nothing wrong with not knowing. I don't know much about physics so I listen to specialists instead of being like "wrong because tiktok university says....". I have been sincere since the beginning. Integrity is really important to me. The emotions got the best out of me in the end and only for that I will apologise. I will not apologise for spreading awarness and having empathy.
I'm confused. Putting Lee Sin aside are you insinuating that having OCD is easy? Depression is actually a really…
Obviuously your brother doesn't do it because what you mentioned are not symptomps of OCD. A person who suffers from OCD can have obsessions relating to k*lling their family members but once again they won't do it if it's just OCD. It's my 3rd time saying the same thing but I will repeat myself since researchers worry that literacy seems to be on the decline after COVID. I am not talking about those character but the way you guys are thinking and talking about this mental ilness when your knowledge is based on stereotype that you choose to perpetuate even thought that harms REAL people. If your brother's symptomps got worse and he started being suic*dal would you really not mind people telling him to get over himself and stop bothering others since It's not a serious mental ilness? Do you think that would end well for him? Because that's what im figting against. I don't fight for Lee Shin. I fight for people who have to deal with aftermaths of people's frivolousness. And statistics don't work like that, I hope that's not what your university teaches you. I gave source in parentheses if you need more details. And I agree I said before that she is the worst psychiatrist I have ever seen in a kdrama world. But if you guys care about that you cannot ship her with male lead since he is her patient, it's unethical for a doctor to develop romantic relashionship with their patient. And I am not here to argue either I am just spreading awarness or at least I try to but I feel like I am talking about A (real life) but you guys are talking about B (kdrama) so we won't reach any consensus. So all I can say is that I hope your brother will learn how to live with OCD because it is such a tormenting expierence. I hope good specialists will take care of him so he will be able to heal❤️
I'm confused. Putting Lee Sin aside are you insinuating that having OCD is easy? Depression is actually a really…
And I am happy that your ocd doesn't make you suicidal and I hope you will recover soon from your depression. Sendind you lots of strengh to fight those bastards!! But once again it's your own personal expierence, everyone will be different. Thirty-six percent of the patients of OCD report lifetime suicidal thoughts and 11% have a history of attempted suicide (Torres AR, Ramos-Cerqueira AT, et al, 2011). Those people sadly don't share the same opinion as you. Shin will learn how to live with ocd unless he k*lls himself first. And wasn't the whole point of the surgery to make Goon no longer depressed? Wasn't surgery declared successful? So technically he no longer suffers from depression. Once again I am not talking about this kdrama, I don't care about the characters, I care about real people because those are real ilnesses and the way we us society treat them affects if people who need treatment will get it.
I'm confused. Putting Lee Sin aside are you insinuating that having OCD is easy? Depression is actually a really…
Of course I totally agree that no mental ilness should be treated as an excuse to treat people badly that's why in my previous comment I put Lee Sin aside. I woudn't risk saying that one mental ilness is more serious than the other since every ilness manifests itselft differently in every person since both of those ilnesses are multifactorial and end in su*cide. I don't know what your source is but I would look for another one if you in the future ever need some information about mental health because this one simplifies it too much (like for example sometimes therapy and medication combined are not enough and a person needs to go under a brain surgery for their ocd just to reduce the symptoms because even that doesn't qurantee remission.
I hope my comment didn't come across like any form of aggresion because that wasn't my intention. I just want to spread awarness about mental problems and social attitude towards thit ilness is very dismissive. People who volunteer at su*ide hotline often have kids calling them and telling them that they want to k word themsleves because they are becoming crazy. A person who has knowledge can easily spot that they are describing just ocd symptoms. The breath of relief you can hear from them when they realise they aren't crazy just ill and their suffering can end thanks to treatment not only with de*th. But not every kid can or know how to call but most are online so I just hope that the social stigma around this illness will change and people will stop treating it like a joke which is often seen online that's why I commented. Thank you for listening and engaging in my rant.
When it comes to this kdrama. The fl is the worst psychiatrist I have even seen in my kdrama watching career and all of them sucks so she should really quit her job especially since her reason for choosing this job is wrong on so so many levels. And since she has feeling for ml I agree that she should focus on taking care of him but I am not suprised she is not doing that since she is emotionally unavailable because she never properly dealt with the trauma that the d*ath of her parent caused her.
