I would understand North Korea, but South Korea? If they are democratic and developed country, they should be ashamed…
South Korea, yes. You should really look it up.
I recommend videos like... On Patrol with South Korea's Suicide Rescue Team, Reasons why living in Korea is like HELL (korean ladka). Academic Pressure Pushing S. Korean Students To Suicide. Or read more articles/research/essays about it.
In 2012 they banned a highly toxic pesticide to stop elders and workers to use it to commit suicide.
It's a very huge problem in South Korea over the past decades.
I agree though, They should be looking at what needs to be changed but that will take a long time since it's very embedded into their society. Plus mental health is still very much taboo in South Korea. It's slowly getting better but it's still very taboo.
Reasons why Koreans may want to commit, are the pressure of society, being an idol, universities, elders feeling like a burden to their adult children (or being abandoned), intergenerational trauma (from the many wars, 1997 bankruptcy, etc.), failing school, not having a great job to pay the bills, being overworked, untreated mental illnesses, etc.
It's a lot.

For those who don't know...
South Korea still has a suicide problem. WHO reported that more than 700,000 people die by suicide every year, and accounted for 1.3% of all deaths in 2019. South Korea had the highest suicide rate for the period 2003 to 2019 (24.6 per 100,000 persons; Statistics Korea, 2019). Suicide is the fifth leading cause of death in Korea, and this trend has been more pronounced in the younger population aged 10–59 years (suicide is the first and second leading cause of death in people aged 10–39 years and aged 40–59 years, respectively) than in the older population aged 60 years and older (Statistics Korea, 2019). In South Korea, in 2020, the statistics were 24.1 per 100,000 persons. Highest on the chart (OECD). There are approximately +1000 people committed each month.
It's not just K-pop idols suffering. It's everyone in South Korea. It's a tough country and society. It's beautiful and all, but still tough.
Not saying he committed (since people are saying there's no evidence) but I see some people just don't understand the entire country itself.

It is extremely disrespectful to both Moonbin’s family and his memory to wildly speculate about the circumstances…
Tell that to the South Korean police, they were the ones to assume he took his own life and probably told it to the news reporters.

korean enterainment industry sucks
Korean society in general sucks. South Korea still holds the fourth country to have the highest suicide rates. +1000 people commit each month. High school students, college students, adults, elderly, & idols.

South Korea in general really needs to work on its work culture. I have heard of way too many people passing away…
Approximately +1000 people commit each month in South Korea. South Korea is rated the fourth highest suicide rates.

I know right, I thought he happy with his life
South Korea still holds the highest suicide rates. High school students, college students, adults, the elderly, and idols take their lives a lot over the years. It's a huge problem in South Korea. It is why the Han River bridge is heavily watched by saviors and with a lot of affirmations along the walkway. There are many bans on products and highly toxic pesticides to stop encouraging elders/workers to commit suicide. We are overworked, corruption, pressure from society, bullying (online/in person), revenge p**n, blackmail, the elderly being abandoned by their families, intergenerational trauma (colonization of Japan, many wars, etc.), and much more. This is why many Koreans immigrated to different countries to have a better life. There are at least 1000 people who commit each month.

I'm not even going to read any more of the comments below. They infuriate me because people are posting the same…
It's not just k-pop. The entire Korean society. South Korea still holds the highest suicide rates. Students, adults, elderly, idols, etc.
Back in 2012, they banned highly toxic pesticides to prevent the elderly/workers from using them to commit suicide
