everyone in the comment section talking about sudden/random/abrupt ending but not even a soul taking about how it's based on the real event that happened in 2003 SARS outbreak in taiwan which severely damaged the healthcare system in whole taiwan (the movie was intended to be made quite similar to corona outbreak too) and this whole thing you watched was a story of just one hospital, just the beginning of a very long battle.
i'm surprised how no one noticed that those clips from 2003 shown on tv in the movie were real clips that a reporter actually exclusively reported and recorded. this movie is a documentary for all those fighter and deceased.
the ending was not abrupt, it was very obv, the 2 mcs were contaminated by the virus yet they chose to save someone else's life rather than their's. the documentary did not end but the story did by the logic that the 2 mcs most probably sacrificed themselves during the out break.
this was not the story of a "coward" surgeon like xia zheng or a responsible nurse like ang taihe, it was the story of all the medical staffs and all of their emotions that poured out during the oubreak.
this was the story of real war that happened 20 years ago in taiwan.

They way Jw didn't had any scenes of taking care of Jh in hospital, was also so intentional (also that silent intro💀) cause everything in Jw's memory was in haze, suffocating and messed up. He didn't even remember saving Jh and delivering him to hospital, his mental state was in literal mess which was shown through his face, his actions and most importantly the episode and direction itself, It was like we were watching Jw pov in half of ep 7. And another half for Jh's pov.
We were almost feeling what Jw was feeling when we thought that Jh died cause even when he didn't die, Jw thought that Jh WILL die. That's why director didn't let us have any clue and made a joke out of us for whole half episode👁️👄👁️.
I can't get enough of these episodes🤧

That was basically because how short those 30 min were to get everything in the adaptation. I too had a lot of expectations when I came to know that each episode is of 30 min. I thought that maybe they might pull it off cause they finally have enough time. I have read manhwa and it's really good so I thought maybe this time they'll make a successful adaptation but they failed miserably even after giving every ep 30 min. Those 30min were not enough to get everything important from manhwa in each episode. I can't even get connected to character despite of idols good acting for a novice.
Honestly, Unconditional Love Story was really good. Now idk if it was because I had very little expectation for it or because it was ACTUALLY good. Even when the concept was Our Dating Sim was good and cute but something was lacking, I bet if it was giving more screentime it would've done better.

What makes this drama different form any other Korean bl drama is the direction and cinematography to be more specific. Ofc actors have perfect chemistry, their acting is perfect and accurate, know when to become awkward without losing any sign of intimacy, are so indulged into their own character that it's satisfying to watch but imo it would have been like any other Korean bl drama if it wasn't cause of this unique direction and cinematography.
From the very first episode you kinda get a very heavy feeling. When I watched the 1st episode, I couldn't particular put my hands on… but something in this BL made me feel really anxious and uneasy. Not in a scary way but something in this BL was not normal even when it looks too normal. After episode 4th last scene and the sudden change in cinematography from ep5 that feeling was on the peak and I finally understood what was wrong with it. Nothing was wrong with it, it was suppose to feel that way, the director wanted us too feel like we were walking on a think wire that will break off no one knows when. Those regular scenes of the ocean, the painfully slow progression of some scenes, the odd sexual tension between 2 mls, whole ep 5 and 6 was supposed to make you feel uneasy and dreamy as if all this was illusion (that random ass shopkeeper giving random ass things to mls for free and then smiling like he was a cupid or something💀, the little date of Jh with his frnd, the last 10 min of ep 6 and every scene with psychiatrist.)
Until ep 7 nothing was clear but the random scenes and edit and cinematography was giving away the whole plot and the story of next episode. Even the main poster looks so dreamy and eerily normal. The odd way of using color gradient to tell the emotions of that particular scene, the unique way of editing scenes to make you feel uneasy yet normal... Honestly direction staff needs so much more recognition, THIS BL NEED MORE RECOGNITION!


(I used "Korean bl drama" specially and not just "Korean bls" as it would include movies too and I've seen a handful of Korean bl or lgbtq+ movie with this kind of concept. It's the first time for a Korean bl drama to make you feel this way cause of the unique way of direction but not for Korean bl as many have done this before like Beoning, Method, Lost to shame and Lipstick. And Japanese bls have almost mastered in it like Double, The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese, Novalist whole series, Double mint, even those that don't belong to psychological genre pull off this accurately with mature concept.)

One one hand they are criticizing characters of Tae and Eunji and then they r literally acting like them. They are taking Jw as any normal character when he's clearly dealing with severe ptsd and depression. These comments they make, sound so... ruthless to me.
Ik it's all because of their ignorance but it hurts to think they won't think twice before making these kind of comments irl too, if the one who's suffering isn't related to them but will still have a guts to say "seek help, you are not alone, trust us." Bullshit.

I think they either did this to add more "spiciness" to drama as either way it's still a drama💀 since at the first Jw is shown as all mr perfect guy who handsome and have a lot of money but is surrounded by bad company as ungrateful dogs, kinda cliché. Afterall its' still a kdrama👀.

To show how mentally ill patients are more of an open prey for these kind of people. Since Jw's mental health was already not good, he attracted people who used this weakness of his and he couldn't even do anything as he was not mentally strong. But on other hand we had Jh, who was a country boy raised with a lot of love and perfectly healthy mental state. From the start attracted people with positive minds and after the accident became stronger and more confidant unlike Jw. It might be a kind of metaphor used by director and screenwriter since nothing in this drama happened without any reason or randomly. Especially not certain scenes or points like these.

I seriously don't want to sound rude but if you don't like this heavy themed drama you can just drop it. Everyone have their own tastes, we can't force you to like this drama and we shouldn't. If it's not your cup of tea and is too heavy to digest, it's ok to drop it but please don't make statements like "if the rating will go higher, than is because they know how to kiss not because they have an amazing relationship".
T8S is doing an amazing job to portray what it wants to portray, it's just not something you would like to watch. And just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad right? There's nothing wrong with the plot or direction of drama, instead this drama is actually really good as psychological and melodrama.

Actually what Jw is doing is not something a sane person would do. Jw already had a history of depression and ptsd cause of his brother's death, he was always surrounded with trashy people causing him detachment from world but when he found someone who genuinely cares about him, ie Jh, he just couldn't help but get attracted to him.
He kissed Jh cause he couldn't help it but then he started questioning what he did and distanced himself from Jh just in case Jh also went with the flow in the heat of moment and not actually have any crush on Jw but the way both male showed unspoken attraction, made Jw also think that it would be ok to to take their relationship further than jut kissing and Jh liked it too. But then that incident with Jh happened, again severely triggering Jw's past trauma, Jw stopped taking his medications and therapy for past 1 month (I mean what that psychiatrist was giving wasn't even therapy at first place but still),he lost his only hope Jh which was a thin thread to keep hanging for life and he tried to commit suicide, he was numb, he couldn't feel anything, he was scared that if he get close to Jh he would break him like he thinks he did to his brother and that camera. He is TERRIFIED to hold on to his only hope now, he doesn't even know what he's living for anymore.
And Jw didn't kiss Eunji. It was more like Eunji forced herself on him. His ex gf is just a parasite and manipulative person who's taking advantage of Jw messed up mental state. Jw is at the stage where he just don't know what to do and what to live for. This show wasn't supposed be a light show to start with since a character already had severely ill mental state.
Idk if it's just me the ocean scenes and cinematography made me feel really uneasy suffocated and edgy from ep1 (even when I didn't know where this show is going to take turn to ) and it was on literal peak when cinematography suddenly changed in ep 5 and 6. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO FEEL LIKE THAT CAUSE THIS NOT LIKE ANY NORMAL BL. The directors wanted us to feel what Jw and Jh are feeling rn. Jw isn't being a bitch, it is normal for him to react that way. Mah guy is mentally ill, severely. He must be feeling like he's on the edge of cliff rn. Shutting himself down from his loved one has become his default coping mechanism. That's a clear sign of depression but as you are watching this as a 3rd person you might think Jw is being too much rn but trust me he's not. He's ill and he needs therapy and loved ones with him, ie Jh.
And the kiss they shared in first half isn't even the kiss we all were looking for. I bet a lot of viewers would've felt that weird uneasiness from the way it was filmed. Tho the kiss was intimate and perfect, the way Jw seduced Jh by touching his lap BUT something WAS wrong with the kiss. And after watching ep 7 and 8, we all know what was wrong with it. The upcoming kiss of ep 10 is the kiss you were talking about, the intimate kiss with light and sensual mood.
This BL doesn't have high rating cause of the kiss, it's cause of how the whole drama was directed. It's fascinating and metaphorical. It reminds me of Japanese drama "Double" and Korean movie "Method" or "Beoning" at some point. Korea might have a handful of lgbtq+ or bl movies that have covered theme like this and have succeeded in delivering it with accuracy but T8S is the first drama to do this with sheer accuracy. Before this, "A Shoulder To Cry On " tried to do the same but those who've read manhwa knows how it was failed miserably (not saying it was bad but since I've read manhwa I had a bit high expectation.).
So, I can understand why some people are not liking it. You either like or hate this drama, there's no in between. Just the EXTREMES.

I like how people are blaming Jw as everything he is doing is in his control and he is in his "right mind" therefore he should break up with Jh "healthily" if he wants to. These r the literal words you guys have always used for characters who are immature or doesn't find themselves worthy enough and are using the same word for someone who's suffering from chronic depression and PTSD which was heavily triggered after that beach trip incident and he haven't been on medication for freaking 1 month but all his psychiatrist care about is her monthly rents💀. What can medications do if you have no one around to give you hope and any reason for living? What Jw need rn is both correct medication (just change that psychiatrist or imma drag her out of the screen and throw her out of the window.), therapy and support of his loved ones.
I can bet people making these comments have not seen that deleted scene of Jw trying to commit suicide. Jw is surrounded by trashy, manipulative people, he is severely ill. He isn't even in his right mind. So, expecting something what a person in right mind would do is stupidly funny.

I bet you wouldn't have say these things if it was any other character than Jh. Y'all would've bombarded that character with sentence like "HOW PATHETIC" "How can you leave a depressed man alone??" At least stand on your own words and norms.
It's so funny how this drama focuses so much on spreading awareness about mental health and people in comment section are still acting like Tae and Eunji ( ﾉ ﾟｰﾟ)ﾉ.

Is that how y'all would react if someone you love is in this condition? No right? You'd be persistent with them, you'll aways have hope since you are mentally sane and healthy. If you yourself loose hope how can you expect the patient to hold onto the hope? Since we are 3rd person that's why we are reacting like this. As none of us is at Jh place, let's not make decisions for Jh too. And let's not sound like a jerk instead.

Jw isn't even in his right mind. He is in a pure state of shock, he doesn't know how react at all. Jw was already on medication as he was suffering from depression and ptsd because of his brother's death and now this incident with Jh has made him TERRIFIED and traumatized again. Jw is not like othr characters who can't be with their partner cause they are insecure and doesn't find themselves worthy enough, Jw is a different and these are default actions of any depressed man.
I'm def not saying that Jh should keep trying and be persistent to continue their relationship (whatever it was since no one ever confessed🤡) but honestly if Jh leaves him now, it would probably make HIM look like jerk instead. Jw already tried to distance himself once after his kissed Jh on the school trip, due to his mistake but Jh still wanted to continue whatever they had, they went further than just kissing without even confessing in their personal trip by both of the party's consent. Jh obv loves Jw so much and know what Jw suffers from.
Jh took stand for Jw while Tae was talking shit about Jw's brother, he gave testimony of Jw's innocence, during the whole beach trip he was the one keeping Jw sane. He should've already predicted what was signing in for by falling for Jw, Trust me if this was any other character than Jh y'all would've criticized it by saying "How can you leave a depressed man alone!" Just because it's a mc y'all are changing your standards, norms and words.
Jw needs to change his bitchy therapist and urgently needs support of his loved ones, ie Jh. He NEEDS him and y'all are asking him to leave, heartless creatures🤧. Try to act the same with any other character than mc.
Y'all who's saying Jh should leave Jw, should really watch "Journey To Shore" and then make comment like leave the one who's depressed. Do y'all even know how evil you sound, same as Tae and Eunji who also don't give a shit about Jw mental health👀.
One of the main component of drama is to spread mental heath awareness and people are saying leave Jh even after watching that deleted scene where Jw attempted to commit suicide.
