Yeah, I think companies capitulating to demands like this have really given the general chinese fandom leeway to believe they can make a fuss about anything and will get their way - they really protest about everything lol recently I've seen protests that an actresses' styling in a drama is "too plain" and protests that an idol is accepting too "low quality" endorsements..these kinds of protests never end and the fans are either kids or truly have way too much time on their hands.

they claim it's cause the character doesn't suit him (in the original book the ML is a cold CEO type substantially older than FL but i think the production has made clear they're making quite a bit of changes to the plot/ MCs so the point is moot) and their first 2 dramas together didn't really succeed so there's no point in a third pairing, but imo they just look down on the FL actress and think she's not good enough to pair with him - they probably imagined he was at a level to pair more established/ popular actresses when in reality..yeah i don't know i think it's just fans overstepping their bounds, wanting more than their fave can get and thinking they know better than their faves as always in c-ent

from what i understand of the book her mother used to be married to his father when they were younger (high school age?) but his father was..not a good man to say the least
am caught up to ep8 and am quite liking it so far, but truly the one thing i can't get over is how comically cartoonishly villainous xiang zhaoyangs mother is in this...the way she speaks is so grating its seriously driving me a little insane lol am really hoping the coming episodes give some background/ context to it, otherwise its hard to take seriously..but aside from this im really enjoying xiang zhaoyang's character so far!!
