I am a software engineer by profession. I love spending all my free time in the Drama world. My favorite genres are Romance, Melodrama, and Youth. I prefer modern-day settings. No hate to period dramas, but they are just not my cup of tea. I am in this drama journey for about 5 years now, and I have to say there have been several masterpieces that have made me fall in love with the culture depicted in these dramas, especially Korean culture.
Some of the masterpieces that I love
- 1 liter of tears: This would always be close to my heart. As a disabled person myself with a similar story, I was shocked at first by how the struggles of FL seemed to overlap with my experiences. I was able to take a lot of positives from how to have a more positive outlook despite the adversities. Of course, like many, I would not dare to rewatch this due to fear of dehydration. The title itself screams that you need to hydrate yourself due to the loss of 1 liter of water from your body through tears.
- Mother/Lie After Lie/Woman: Three very different and yet very similar dramas. Definitely one of the few dramas that made me love the melodrama genre. I was so drawn into the power of motherhood depicted in them and how much a mother is willing to sacrifice to protect those she considers their own.
- Soredemo, Ikite Yuku: Beautiful showcase of how a crime impacts both the victims' as well as the perpetrator's families. The melancholy of the leads when they realize they are delving into a forbidden love between two people who shouldn't be involved in each other's lives. I would like to give special mention to Call It Love and Autumn Tale
- My Mister: I loved everything about this. Just everything.
- Noona Romance: I know it's not a drama name, but there's something in this subgenre that I really like. 18 Again, Melancholia, Lost, At a Distance, Spring Is Green, When the Camellia Blooms, Encounter, Romance Is a Bonus Book, Why Her, Falling Into You, My Fated Boy
- Go Ahead: My first and best Chinese rodeo. This had nothing you could hate.
- I Belonged to Your World: What a son can sacrifice for a mother.
- Mouse: The perfect Mystery Thriller. So far, the best second half of a drama.
- Something In The Rain (Till Ep 9): What is romance? This is romance. So far, the best first half of a drama. Second half was a major letdown, but who cares, I rewatch only till Ep. 9.
- Someday or One Day: Time travel done perfectly. Special mention to My Perfect Stranger, Shining for One Thing, Reset, Boku Dake ga Inai Machi
- Body Switch: Once again, a subgenre. Secret Garden, When You Be Me, The Day of Becoming You, Mr Queen, Kojinsa Arimasu, Switched
