After the last battle, he faked death, so that xihe and their son to survive. And goes far for indefinite treatment. Xihe also knows this, just not when will he comeback. So it was a timeskip of 8yrs in the novel when he came back.

She is still Shem Xihe. After the twin moons, GQ soul just entered hers. Or their souls merged. So technically she is still Xihe. She just gained all the memories of GQ.
