no cause THANK YOU for bringing up SYT’s s*x**l assault attempt. i hadn’t seen anyone else mentioning it and i was like surely i can’t be the only one who found this disturbing

wow there are so many people excusing sml's actions and saying things like "oh but it's a period piece" or "it was common at the time".
people. THAT. IS. NOT. THE. POINT.
yes, SA existed in the past (it still does btw). the problem isn't inherently the theme being a part of the story, but the way it is being depicted in a positive light (or at least a non-negative one).
the first few episodes (and i'm saying that because i'm still on ep 3) could have the same plot points, but ruo wen SHOULD NEVER become a love interest for one of the leads. he shouldn't have a cutesy little romance and be seen as a nice guy as the story progresses. he is a literal rapist.
SA can and should be discussed in media, but with the proper tone. it should be seen as terrible and the character committing it (although he doesn’t do it on screen, he attempts to and it is heavily implied that he has done in the past) should be treated accordingly to his actions.
it’s not about liking red flag characters. rape is not a red flag, it is a disgusting and vile act that cannot be romanticized.
