Based from where her character is coming from, she was already submitting to the will of everyone in her life except her own. N where she is now, she doesn't have anyone or basic needs to keep her moving forward besides the guy has something she needs that was her mothers who is no more and also to find her heritage. Being overly confident now, even with her perseverance and fierceness would seem arrogant and off her character due to where she is coming from (slave).

Funfact, once again, based on the short 10 chapters the story online there were not supposed to start with Duan wu diving for pearl but rather selling them to the merchants on the dance floor but the production team improvised those scenes in addition which i think was the best decision
