Cāng Xuan is the man Xiao Yao has the deepest BONDS with forged by a traumatic childhood. Xiang Liu is her kindred spirit and soulmate. He’s the man she truly WANTS. Tushan Jing is the man she NEEDS because her greatest fear as she states more than once in this drama is to be left alone. If the viewer stops worrying about who has the most chemistry with whom, because this isn’t really a romance even though it’s theme is love and overcoming trauma, then the complex interplay and dynamics between these four marvelous actors becomes much more entertaining and interesting without all the anxiety of wanting an outcome the viewer has no control over. Which is actually another theme of this drama. There are a number of lovely conversations between different characters that discuss the folly of strongly pinning hopes on unlikely outcomes.

After watching the first few episodes I’m under the very subjective (please don’t hate me) opinion that this is a take the money and run project coasting on the popularity of LBAD. That’s probably not going to ruin the enjoyment for most people watching this light-hearted confection. I get the impression that at least some of the casting and script choices such as wedging in superfluous secondary leads were made in a boardroom and not by the creative team. So if you think Ryan Ding is dreamy and Yang Chao Yue pouting and whining is still cute and adorable for the nth time over 38 episodes, enjoy.
