The whole story for this drama is actually well written. For the main leads and the supporting characters.
The problem Mrs Chen has recently has been built slowly and finally reached its peak. I consider each character relevant to the story, including LJX reminiscences, even if I do not like the character. Lin Mao & Yixiu could not just have a few episodes and suddenly caused problems. Their relationship bloomed due to their closeness which took time (and episodes).
If the 2nd cp story was related the main story then it would have been no problem...like shaon and her maid interactions..but…

The woman who has been quiet being the regal lady of the 1st household and seemed to always get everything she wished for in the past. But the continuous disappointments finally makes her explode. From Yiyu could not get the 'proper match', Shan's failure in imperial exam and her most desire wish, to link herself to the royal family crashed because Yixiu refused to marry Han Zhao. Yining's interfering in her latest and ultimate wish make Mrs Chen livid and finally reveal the nasty madam she always is. One who never hesitated to eliminate those she considered obstacles.
I cannot feel sympathy towards SML even after trying too, considering that he would end up alone, the tragic life of a thirdwheeler. I do not hate him, but I cannot like him being so delusional in love
Yes it is his right for falling in love but he started his love as admiration and gratitude, after being helped by FL. She was like his angel during the worst time of his life. But then he started developing his feelings into something more, to be acknowledged by FL and that she would also feel the same. He has come to the conclusion that he and FL belong to each other. Her help, despite her explanation, is now believed as something rooted from affection.
FL should have blatantly told him that she is not interested in him or wants to be with him. Her vague answer, in order not to hurt his feeling, has turn SML into an obsessive man.
