I want to like it.

1) fantasy genre

2) Li Hong Yi

I'll keep watching it for those reasons. But even though I'm watching it, it doesn't mean I'm giving it high marks :)

Is this one of those rumoured productions I've heard of where corrupt money needs an investment to be spent on? Because the behind the scenes planning and production is so poor, I'd believe it.

If it is, kudos to the actors for putting their best foot forward and doing their best with what they given.

Just because it has a shoestring budget is no excuse.

Shoestring budget films/series can turn out fantastically as long as the behind the scenes work is carefully planned and carried out. Even productions with the worst costumes/set design can be preferable to watching big budget productions, so long as the remaining aspects of script + acting + sound + production work together.

This one is a mess.

I have nothing bad to say about the acting ... well, I suppose that Tang villain of the first few eps is hamming it up, but I'm enjoying his hammed up performance. And if I think of the lines he has to deliver, possibly there's no better way to deliver those lines than to be extraordinarily hammy since his lines are so over the top.

The sound/music is ... there. Nothing blissful, but hasn't made me wince either.

The costumes/sets are ... there. See music comment.

Where it falls down is the flow of the story. It's presentation is at times confusing and unbalanced. Who's to say thats due to the script, the editing, the direction, or a combination of all three - but it clearly hasn't been planned and carried out all that well.

I really want to know how someone can arrange such a line-up of acting talent, and then screw up the script/direction of a series as much as this has been.

I'll keep watching because I like the talent, but seriously, whoever caused this disaster needs to be blacklisted from ever being involved in producing film/tv ever again.

This is seriously my worry, I want to check out Immortal Samsara, or The Heart of a Genius or Lost in the Kunlun…
I remember when watching his recent e-sports drama (whatever it was called) there was a line in it about people's expectations of celebrity ... and I thought at the time 'is that what you think of your own situation/fandom?'

Is this 'one bad project after another' a subconcious self-destruction of his own celebrity? hmm...

You couldn't have said that you were only venting before you told me to mind my own business?

Don't worry, it's all good. Go grab a pillow and scream and few curses into it. I find that to be a better venting outlet than engaging in internet arguments. :)

You do realise this is a *public* forum...?

The internet isn't some secluded booth where you and your besties are having a private yack amonst yourselves. Your comments here are seen by anyone and everyone who chooses to do so. And they, in return, can choose to opine wherever and however they wish.

That being the case, by what right do you think you get demand that I 'mind my own business'? How is that a rational expectation?

To give your own words back to you. 'You like it or not that's your own problem'.

I don't see anything she has said in this conversation to be 'nasty' or 'bullying'. You, however, came across as a petty adolescent.

Grow up.

Put like that, it would make sense.

That being said, I'm gonna voice another little gripe for ep 27 regarding the use of flashbacks.

It's fine if she realises her feelings for him and this is demonstrated via flashbacks ... but why is she having a flashback of Ling Buyi in a scene she as a character never actually knew of? We knew Ling Buyi was watching her at the lantern festival - but she as a character didn't. Yet she flashbacked to this when she was reviewing her feelings towards him?

Don't mind me griping on about this, really. I'm just having a bit of a lol about c-drama's inability to control themselves when it comes to flashback use.

It cuts only to name as part 1 and part 2. No difference. Tmr we will get next 2 eps. The same as Single part…
Yes. I understand that is what's happening.

I'm asking, why?

I'm saying - it would much more *meaningful* making use of 'seasons', if they made the cuts of where each 'season' ended have meaning in/to the story itself.
On Love Like the Galaxy: Part 1 Jul 27, 2022
You know, I can understand why they would cut it into two seasons to get around that ridiculous edict from the chinese government about how long a series should be.

That said, if you are going to cut it into seasons, then why not do the cuts at logical 'end' places in the story? And you wouldn't need to to only cut it into two. If the story has mini arcs, why not cut it into a season for each mini arc?

For example the first 'season' could've either ended at the seemingly concreted initial phase of the engagement of Luo Yao, giving 'season one' a sort of happy ending, the mini arc being CSS' childhood to adulthood, if a segment of viewers wanted to leave the story there. Or it could've been cut off when Luo Yao and CSS have their teary discussion about ending their engagement, and when they walk back to their parents to jointly announced this decision, making it a 'complete' mini story wrapping up both CSS' journey into adulthood and her adult decision realising that she needed to put the country's needs ahead of her own - instead of her childish behaviour at the start of the series, where she acted to protect herself first above all other considerations.

Either would've been good.

How on earth does it make any sense to make that scene with the Wen madam the end cut to 'season one'?

It makes neither logical nor artistic sense.

It's fine if you want to get around that ridiculous government edict, or guidance, or whatever it was. But at the very least, put some degree of effort into making use of 'seasons' to get around that edict make some sort of logical/artistic sense.

It's because you put the day in the middle of the date format, instead of the month. I thought you were using the d/m/y format.

Aargh, I shouldn'tve started watching this series before it finished. A 3 month wait is going to be AGONY!!!

At first, lol, I thought the people who helped the guy escaped were working for LBY in a set up to get the escapee to confess ... but then that happened.

I've watched too many c-dramas, possibly. I see multilayered conspiratorial subplots everywhere. I mean ... I still suspect Yang Yang's every appearance, non-appearance even.

Um
a - YS slandered CSS to LY, behind CSS' back. So it's not simply bickering, it's character assassination.

b - he calls her negative things in front of other people, both in front of the men at the dinner party, and in front of her father and LY when discussing the classes. Which, apart from slander, directly causes her embarrasment in front of others.

It's not friendly. It's not challenging. It's demeaning. It's the actions of a man who isn't getting the attention he wants with polite behaviour, and so is acting out to get it with negative behaviour.

It's quite possible to have a friendly bickering, teasing, argument, and do so with an audience ... but that is *not* what he is doing.

With regards to LBY ... 'asking', having a conversation, is not keeping himself in check? Um, yes it is. Posing a question, once, in a non-threatening nor stalkish manner, is not the profile of a man unable to control his behaviour.

Sorry babe, but I beg to differ.
