For this adaptation, ShiYing achieved his goals of saving and protecting his country and his love. His last wish to ZY is the theme, which he comes back to see her every year when the flower blooms. The ending is fitting and nothing hanging for me. I think the series name should be The Eternal Promise as that is ShiYing’s eternal promise. (The Longest Promise is probably lost in translation from Chinese)

The way XZ understands and humanizes the character is refreshing. In my opinion, it gives different perspectives and depth to this type of drama. Listening to his interview is always a treat.

Absolutely. I always find that XZ understands and humanizes the character so well. It opens up different perspectives I rarely see previously from these dramas.

The characters take time to develop but towards the end you will see the fullness of them. The leads acting are very good. Don’t focus on appearance and discount the performance quality. There are subtle movements and gestures that deepened the sentiments. As a reminder there are many comments in this section but be careful from whom they came from. Don’t get misled by intentional malicious comments. Fair and productive criticisms are always welcome. All I can say is watch and experience yourself. Don’t miss out on good work.
I just want to praise XZ acting here. I saw him first time on oh my emperor drama, then the untamed, he deserves…
XZ’s acting was encouraging in those dramas you mentioned. He is ten folds better in the recent The Youth Memories (Where Dreams Begin). And captivating in TLP thus far.
