I used father figures loosely to describe the number of male presence - good/bad - in his life vs women

It is obvious that the lack of a prominent female figure doesn't bother the audience - there are enough tokens to whet the appetite as you accurately point out in this post

I am not speaking of physical strength. I am speaking of prominence of their presence.

I understand that in the novel it was a man's world and the women were accessories but it bothers me that has translated to the tv adoption. It didn't bother me so much in season 1 because there were some notable female characters even though they filtered in and out, none with staying power.

Example being, the ML has what, FIVE father figures and not a single maternal figure in his life. He barely interacts with her so the stepmom doesn't count.

I understand the source material doesn't. However they have made changes, so expanding on the FL's role should have been explored. It'd have enhanced the adaption

FL lived. He imagined her playing the piano, but every interaction with him after she complimented him was real. They won't go as far as have them pose for pictures if she wasn't alive.

They won't kill off the FL and compound it by making the ML certifiable crazy .... because that's what he was if all those were imaginary

This show actually had some great Nationalists in Tu Nan who digressed throughout. I guess this is what sets it apart

I thought his acceptance of their blackmail him to go to undercover as Tu Nanshen was too easy. Also that ruthless killings? As long as they are killing each other, no skin off his back

He went to the Other Side as in join the Communist party? Because he was already entrenched in the Kuomintang party. Even if it was unwittingly, he went along with their initiatives.
