Anyway, based on style and subject matter they seem to target similar audience, but: LLTG is fairly light, funny, slower and more focused on family relationships. MYTJ feels a lot darker, fast paced more FL centric, so might not be for everyone. I asked just in case my assessment is wrong, but I probably should've looked at your profile first.
As far as large number of episodes could be a hindrance. For me it was way easier to plan to work MJTY into my viewing and its pace was excellent. Also, I've seen a few comments around about KDrama watchers being put off by large number of episodes since they are used to fewer but longer.
As I understand the line between A+ & S is very blurry and mainly really down to investment into marketing & presence of top tier actors. And yeah casting is good in LLTG, there are more actors & there are more episodes so yeah it kinda needed a higher budget. That said, MJTY looks fantastic and it doesn't dwell on too many side issues (like family relationships etc). So, yeah they spent their money well.
Even if LLTG initially had a massive marketing push; overtime it doesn't matter much if a show doesn't deliver. The hype died down ages ago so it's no longer a major factor.
If two dramas target the same demographic/viewer segment, then yes you can compare dramas which have high disparity in budget & talent. We do it all the time. If both look good, engaging and enjoyable no one is going to run to see what was the budget. And it's definitely more fair than comparing works from completely unrelated genres (Like, Love of Thousand years is also a Xianxia ... no sense)

What happened back then? I got into cdrama's proper in 10/2022 but I don't recall any controversy as far as those 2 titles go.
Anyway, the target audience is different for both so comparing viewing figures of the time - just like now - is like comparing apples and oranges. If to take Xianxia audience LBFAD should be compared to The Last Immortal in which case it would be LBFAD. For LLTG I think it should probably be compared with My Journey to You in which case LLTG is definitely it. What do you think?
