I think the reason why there's no 3 guys is because the 2 ML and the 3 ML weren't captivating in the novel .
From the Reuters I guess they turned the 2 ML into a similar character as Zhang Zhe from SOKP . maybe they were confused what they'll do with the 3 ML and since he doesn't have much to offer they combined him with Yan Zi jing.

the only drama that stayed true and closer to the novel was The story of kunning palace .

- Duanwu started wearing beautiful costumes when she’s still Yan Zijing follower .
- Yan Ziing is teaching Duanwu martial arts .
- The only intense scene we got in the novel between Yan Ziing and Duanwu is when he was suffering from high fever and she saw him half naked with his body full of scars but from the reuters there's a scene when he lifted her up and put his big hand around her waist to protect her .
- there're 3 ML in the Novel but 2 in the drama , seeing Yan Ziing costumes ( his face covered in black scarf with only eyes visible ) proves that they really combined him with the 3 ML character .

I finished reading the novel and it's not because I’m biased or something but it made no sense that Duanwu ended up with the blue eyed man , the way the writer closed the story between Duanwu and Yan Zijing isn't satisfying like be serious he was the main event from the beginning to the end who she accompanied all the way , He's a red flag but he has a good side .
and the second ML isn't the full package that some people think he's .
i could not care less about the ending but please make sure to give Haoyan the kiss scene that we waited for so long 👉👈

Aside from HaoYan reunion , I think there's something special about this drama which is the FL journey of skill development and her career growth .
They usually show us in Chinese historical dramas the ML crowning achievements only but here both are passionate and dedicated to reach a certain goal .

forget about Weibo , i'm happy most people and fans in Douyin are peaceful and supportive to this drama , this is why it's my favorite chinese platform and im only using it for now .
