Usually I like palace intrigue, but this one was so predictable and boring in this aspect. The last 5 or so episodes really drag and were putting me to sleep. The centipede stuff was stupid.
Characters are good and you find yourself rooting for the FL + ML. The show excels in the bubblier, funnier moments.
I found the Viki English translation to be too formal/direct, but that's a minor complaint.
I hadn't considered this, but it's so true haha. Felt very much like it was made for parents to watch with their teens, with the violence and R rating to make the kids not think it's lame. Thanks for the lol's!
Really liked the characters and soundtrack, too bad the plot was so bland and predictable. Could have also fleshed out some side stories to give it some depth. I literally fell asleep on the last episode.
Disclaimer: I have only seen 16 episodes of this, I have it on hold as I was literally falling asleep on every single episode
I tried giving the Netflix one a go and holy crap it has the opposite problem, tearing through the plot way too fast, underexplaining, rushing... typical Netflix slop that has no room for nuance
Controversial opinion: people project themselves onto the women in romance WAY too much, which is precisely why we end up with bland and boring female characters like the ones some of you are criticizing. Bella in Twilight is one dimensional for precisely this reason: so every reader can more easily put themselves into her shoes. Not every hot dude is specifically for you, so back off and let us have more flavorful women and, as a result, more colorful romances!
Nam Ji ah's acting was fine, it was the writing which was off. And pretty mermaid lady was perfect!
I'm sure they have seen an uptick in international viewers in the last 5 or so years since pretty much every new tv comes with preinstalled apps that expose people to it. that's how i'm here lol, thanks LG channels!
if china wants to appeal to an int'l audience on par with the likes of Game of Thrones or whatever to spread culture, they'll need to let loose on the reins a little bit... hopefully they're seeing the light? but i won't hold my breath
That said, I'm glad I watched it, as it's an interesting take on the fermi paradox. I especially enjoyed the flashback scenes.
I'll never rewatch it though and would probably just recommend the books instead of either this or the Netflix drama.
The last few episodes were really boring. The drama resolves too early and they didn't really know what to do afterwards.
