Like father like son, grrrr.... poor Empress must be fuming mad even from the underworld π‘
"don't fall in love easily but have a child on your own" should be reformulated in "don't fall in love with a jerk but above all don't have children with a jerk". Poor empress had a child on her own, but it would be better if she didn't have him at all
Today's episodes were true rollercoasters. It's good we have a few days of break to settle down the emotions and to prepare ourselves psichologically for final emotional challenges. Re-charge yourselves, hard times are coming to us in three days time!βοΈπͺ

I wouldn't use the term "linear" because the story gives more vibes of a rollercoaster π , but I understand what you've meant. There's a suitable expression in Italian when the story is credible: "even if it isn't true, it's nicely figured out" (se non Γ¨ vero, Γ¨ ben trovato). So, for a good story It doesn't matter if it's a truth or fiction, the important thing is it makes sense while progressing. Being "nicely figured out" no wonder we are debating about characters, that's what we all do in real life too. My best friend (in real life) once said we are not gossiping so much because we hate other people, but on the contrary: we care too much of them, that's why we waste our time talking about them π

The pleasure is mine, JeA. This is the First time I've felt to share my thoughts on MDL. Such a thing would be impossible if I haven't appreciated thoughts of other people here before than. And of course, I think the story really deserves our attenzione. π

A path (envisaged above) to win CY over for the purpose to manipulate her better. He is rational and cunning in everything, but that everything desintegrates when shifu is around. This doesn't happen because he has a double personality, but because he developed a unique attachment to her which is - yesterday you've noticed it well, similar to the attachment Ruyi had with the empress
So let me guess - we are next going to be asked to believe someone conveniently happens to have a right side heart?
In reality, the heart is in the middle of our thorax. The main arthery (aort) and main vein are positioned to the left, but the point she indicated DH to stab her is above vital points, that may harm peripherical part of lungs. If someone cooperated in her mise-en-scene, that's DH. He is not such a loyal dog
1) not only there was no strenght, but that was the wrong hammer and even the wrong (pointy) side of the hammer.…
Yeah. There were several moments in today's eps I've felt the authors wanted to remind the audience this drama is good but remains the work of phantasy. It's utterly good that way
She told LTG:"only when Im dead then you can move on," i think she means Ren Xin has to die in order for LTG to…
Nope, she meant: only with killing her, LTG can be trusted by the emperor and climb up on a power ladder where nobody can harm him in any way. This was well elaborated by DH in that "small talk" before she asked him to stab her.
I watch new episodes on the next day so no 31-2 for me but I've been wondering about something this week and I…
I like your profound reflection into the nature of these strong but unusual attachments. It's easy to label and discard certain behaviour as "crazy", "sick" etc, only because perceived "not normal" by the majority of people. When we are tempted to think of something as "not normal" we should first remember what that term means in its origin: "out of the norm" and norms are set by people, it's a confirmation of pre-dominant human behaviour. In a country of drunkards, not normal is a person who doesn't drink. The environment we grow up and our upbringing shape us all and, imho, one of the greatest values of this (phantasy) script/story/drama consists in orienting the audience not to be harsh with their judgements while preserving the sense of justice and decency.

πππ I'm too old for that, that's maybe why I can relate with problems of my son's generation π Turning serious, neither Ruyi was obliged to become his "motherly attachment", she just tried to fullfil the tasks her dear empress gave her: teach him martial arts (done) and make a man out of him. The second task is difficult to fullfil by a person of the opposite sex

My thoughts, again. Except that I still feel sorry for LTG, his insane attachment is not his fault, NYZ simply wasn't convincing enough in becoming "fatherly authority" for LTG. π There's still space (10 ep) to come to that result π

@JeA He doesn't have a double personality problem, he only loses his reason in matters related to Ruyi due to a sort of Oedipus complex developed towards her in his childhood-early teens, when she represented the only authority to him, while this attachment to her is percieved as "existantial" (the way a child sees his mother, especially a child without a fatherly figure). The empress entrusted him to RX with two tasks: teach him martial arts and make a man out of him. Ruyi accomplished the first task but the second is impossible without a person percieved as an authority of the same sex. NYZ seems to understand this psychological mechanism but he still needs to be recognized as "paternal authority" by LTG. Returning to your questione, PeachBlossom answered you indirectly: if CY didn't see Ruyi, he would probably try that path with CY, the problem is he turns into mess whenever things have something to do with his shifu and trigger that particular mechanism

I agree with everything you've pointed out about the imbalance between plot-characterisation, adding that the second was overdone, giving a repetitive impression. The actions are the basic grammar of any story, its bone-muscular structure that allows story to move forward, if you dwell too much on characters' explaining, you lose on movement aspect

Unfortunatly, I'm not a Mandarin speaker. The translation provided was as I've quoted, although we all know the 2 "purples" (left and right chief) are both dead. The emperor ordered such an insane & illogical punishment that even an awful head not know what to do, why and who to punish except drawing a fortune. Excuse me, It could make sense in some other plot, not in this one. Obviously, I will watch the remaining episodes, I really like this drama, but that doesn't mean I am blind
I have mixed thoughts on todayβs eps. The highlights are few and theyβre YY(very consistently good), the bros…
My thoughts exactly. Objectively, after so much space dedicated to to the sad history of LTG that caused an unhealthy attachment to his Shifu with uncontrollable behaviour whenever it comes to her, NYZ "physical lesson" & verbal preaching is unsuficient. His complexes are not his fault. It's reasonable for NYZ to act as a "father figure" in this case, but the script was too superficial to produce required "sense of authority" and necessary awe in a child with Oedipus complex. The audience didn't hear or sense the right "verdict": "Although you are "useful" to me, beware, I prefer to break all your bones than to allow you pestering my woman. We can have a good relation only if you behave, otherwise you are more useful to me as a dead meat". 2) Besides rushing all the scenes with princes, we are not only completely clear about the set-up, but we are not clear about the reasons why the An emperor decided to punish Red, Scarlett and Purple Guards. This logical "hole" is not a minor issue for the audience who highly appreciates a good script, therefore I fully agree with your judgement: this episodi was the weakest.
