I'm still in the first episode and had to google why the male lead suddenly gets to work with the female lead's father and is trustworthy enough to be sent to protect her in the palace when she's already an empress. First they meet when she runs away to go the capital and sees him getting beaten up. Next he's already recovered when he defends her from bandits in the road. Third he already works for her father.
