now that i think about it, I think most of their "death" talk of "i could live without you" happen in like not serious talk but more teasingly..

yes, my initial comment is actually a release of my annoyance over how in weibo they are arguing of how ML steal FL thunder. I just point out i don't think the show favour the ML over the FL.
and I agree with you if ML has more backstory they would scold him to death indeed, poor guy

at least FL has those backstory. we don't even know how the squad get that strong of a bond with ML, like we just got told ML is the best we trust him, fullstop.
I agree with you ML is too green and 3rd ML character has so many potential but they just so yo-yo with his chara development in the end it falls short too

oh don't get me started on LTG. i really don't know what i feel about this character.
As they rush the ending, every death just lacks impact, there's no time to grieve. I rate deaths by the how they affect the other characters and for the 2 main biggest characters, their death feel flat as they had to move onto the war too quickly, sigh..could have been better, I feel disappointed cause I really enjoy the 1st part of this

I have read you review and I agree they messed up more and more towards the end. Pacing was so off, they tried to do so much. Especially when they have a random voiceover in the middle of a war explaining things. It's a shame cause it started so well.
Also the drama tells pretty clear they're not patriotic people, they're just servants who have a duty to fulfill so for them to at the end all died fighting against invaders are kinda off too

emm yeah you could call that a breakdown but it's not enough. his character lacks backstory so emotionally I think it's hard to symphatize with him. NYZ as a character feel flat tbf, so little character growth it's almost 2D how he is.
LYN is fine but to say he/ML stole the thunder of FL is just wrong imo and i was getting annoyed at all the nasty things said on wb. It's obvious to me the writer is lazy on NYZ character

in my mind, Ruyi died, I know it's not in tune with her character but I think it's obvious he is going to acompany NYZ after he died cause all her mission and vendetta is basically done. So the obvious choice for that scene should be Princess YY as she is the who tied them all together in the first place. To put Chu Yue there is just not as impactful. I don't get why they choose Chu Yue really..

Personally, I don't think A Journey to Love favour the ML over the FL at all. Let's not talk about screentime but the character itself.
FL has a sympathetic past, backstory with Scarlet Guards and an emotional breakdown with the Empress story, She's got the ingredients of good character.
In comparison, ML’s background was slim. He was too perfect, I pray the show to give him some flaws so I could relate to him. Imo the writer was actually lazy with his character, there's no character development at all with the ML.
Even 3ML (Li Tongguang) has more backstory than ML which makes his character interesting, sometimes he is a red flag but then I will pity for him.
The best character development is of course the Princess and in the last scene if it was her reminiscing instead of Chu Yue, it'll be better
