Great Storyline Ruined by Lazy Directing

The storyline is an intriguing unique one in the sense that you can't really tell if it's the supernatural or just bad luck at work in the beginning. However, the director insists on using and reusing shots again and again and again until it is no exaggeration that some episodes contain 30+ minutes worth of reused content. The last episode especially felt slow and anti-climatic. Poof, great storyline blown into smithereens.

Spoilers start from here on, so if you mind those, stop now.

First off, I would like to address the stalker allegations: yes, our ML is indeed a stalker. Perhaps, he doesn't realize it at first, but when he does, he admits it and distances himself. Other characters do address this as well. However, it is hard for the story to have progressed in any other way. Only an obsessive stalker with a one-sided crush and a lack of self-awareness could have been able to figure out the truth behind the witch. Others would've been dead before they even started.

Now that we got that out of the way, let's speak about the characters. Almost all characters are well-fleshed out, even the 'insignificant' side-characters feel real. However, due to the director's habit of 'repeating himself' all characters, even the main ones come off as redundant. Even watching the main leads became a chore at some point.

The drama was doing fairly well until around episode 8 despite the drag. But episodes 9 and 10 were truly... bad. The end was not rewarding at all. I had been anticipating the moment they got together, but as the ML confessed his feelings, I found myself not truly caring for the outcome. Sadly, I found that if in a delightful twist he ended up dead, I would've been more touched by how a real stalker story would've ended, but oh well.

What I pity most is our lead actor. His acting was very moving and touching; Jin-young always had that quality about his acting. However, it could not compensate for all the other glaring problems in the story. Our lead actress did not help much either. Jeong-eui has fascinated me with her acting ever since she was 18 Again. But once she lost weight, she always looks like a tired shell of herself. I wish she'd gain some more weight and vigor since she's still but a young girl. Her acting has suffered, it looks dispirited. She doesn't look like she's acting, and not in a good way.

I wish I can recommend this drama, but I can only say: if you have nothing better to watch, sure give it a shot. It's good until ep 8 anyway.
