That’s a fair question. I think they made another Chinese version because the original Hidden Love (2023) was such a huge success — not only in China but globally. It introduced a lot of people to Zhu Yi’s novel and the whole Hidden Love Universe.

So maybe the production company wanted to reimagine the same story in a shorter format, with newer actors, to reach a wider or different audience — especially those who prefer short dramas. It might also be a way to keep the story alive, especially for fans who miss it or never read the novel.

And while it’s true that nothing can beat the original, there’s no harm in seeing a different take — as long as it’s done with effort and respect. 🙌

💬 My Honest Thoughts So Far:

Honestly, Hidden Love For You didn’t appeal to me at first — not because it's a remake of Hidden Love (2023), which is one of my favorite dramas and truly a masterpiece, or because the story is similar.
I completely understand that since both dramas are adapted from the same novel by Zhu Yi, it’s obvious their core storyline would be the same — and I have no issue with that.

But what initially disappointed me was how closely everything was copied — from costumes to Sang Zhi’s iconic fox doll, it all felt too much like a copy-paste. I wished for something slightly more original in terms of execution.

Then I came across comments from some viewers saying:

> “Hundreds of dramas get remakes. We should stop hating on something just because it's a remake.”



That really made me pause and think. They were right — we shouldn’t criticize just for the sake of comparison. Every project deserves a fair chance, especially when actors and the team have worked hard behind it.

So I decided to give it a try — and after watching the first episode, I’ll admit:
✨ It’s actually not that bad. The beginning was nice, and some parts even caught my interest.

I’m still holding back final judgment until I see the full drama, but for now — I’m open to seeing where it goes. Let’s see what this version brings to the table. 🧡

🌸 Personal Thought on Hidden Love Remake & What Could’ve Been 🌸

I'm not against remakes at all — and I'm honestly happy that Hidden Love (2023) became such a huge success that it inspired another version like “Hidden Love For You (2025)”. I respect the new actors and the effort they’ve put into the remake, and I’ll still watch it — because my love for the original is strong. 💖

But the thing that disappoints me just a little is how almost everything feels like a direct copy —
🦊 Sang Zhi’s iconic fox plush,
👗 similar clothes and styling,
🎬 even the way scenes are shot and expressions delivered — it feels too familiar.

It’s not that I have a problem with adaptation. But when everything looks the same, it loses the charm of creativity.

✨ Just imagine this instead:

If Youku had created an original story, something completely new but still set in the Hidden Love Universe, just like how we fans write spin-offs —
And if they had taken that story to Zhu Yi, maybe she would have liked it and said:
“Sure, you can include it in the Hidden Love Universe.”

How exciting that would have been!
We could’ve gotten a brand-new drama — new characters, fresh storyline, meaningful connections to Sang Zhi, Duan Jiaxu, Sang Yan, or Fu Shi Ze — all while staying inside the same world. 🌌

And who knows? Zhu Yi might’ve even written a novel on that story later — giving us a beautiful official extension to the universe.

✨ Remakes are fine. But what fans truly want is to see the universe expand in meaningful and creative ways — not just repeat what we’ve already loved.

I just wish that instead of making a remake, they had given us Season 2 of Hidden Love or The First Frost.
Despite having such beautiful and emotional stories, it still feels like their journeys are incomplete.
The fanbase is already so strong, and people would have genuinely been excited to see the continuation of their favorite couples’ stories.

All of this could’ve come together to create a wholesome Season 2 that expanded the entire Hidden Love Universe.
Watching a remake feels like watching the same story again and again, while there was so much potential to grow the original characters' journeys.

Honestly, the excitement would’ve been much greater if we had seen the original cast continuing their stories.
This is just one wish… that still lingers in my heart. 💔

That’s why their stories are the same — and I have absolutely no issue with that.

But what felt a bit disappointing to me was that Hidden Love For You tried to copy almost everything from the 2023 version:

If they had done that, fans would’ve enjoyed it a lot more than this remake. 😅

I’m not against remakes, but honestly, it’s hard to replicate that kind of chemistry and warmth. The original Hidden Love is a masterpiece, and honestly, most fans aren’t even liking this remake — it just doesn’t feel the same.

The cast, the emotions, the slow-burn love — everything in the original was done so beautifully that it’s hard for any remake to reach that level. No matter how talented the new actors are, they can’t recreate the same magic that Zhao Lusi and Chen Zheyuan brought to Sang Zhi and Duan Jiaxu.

It’s not just about the story — it’s about the feeling it left behind.
And that’s something no copy can ever replace. 💔

Tbh, what I’m most curious about is exactly what happened between Sang Yan and Fu Shi Ze — the way Sang Yan says his name and then instantly denies knowing him?? Suspicious much! 😳 He’s totally hiding something, and it clearly shows there's some past between them that we don’t know yet. If the drama gives us even a glimpse of their history or any tension, it would be such a goosebumps moment! 🔥 I need answers — and I’m lowkey hoping for a face-off scene between them too! Just imagine the tension! 😩💥

“Ughhh I know right 😭💔 It breaks my heart a little that such a legendary scene might never make it to screen. That supermarket moment with Sang Yan, Wen Yifan, Duan Jiaxu, Sang Zhi, and Fu Shi Ze all together — it had EVERYTHING: drama, humor, tension, and nostalgia 😭🔥 It would've been a dream come true to see Chen Zheyuan, Bai Jingting, and Lin Yi standing side by side — three kings in one frame ✨ Even if WIMTM is using different actors, just a short cameo from the original cast in that scene would’ve made us all scream with joy 😭 I still can't let go of the hope that we might get a surprise!"

Personally I thought the beginning of novel was enjoyable to read! It was a bit stagnant around ch40, but overall I enjoyed the book. It's very slice of life and slightly (?) slow burn which is why the beginning might be a bit boring to you. However, it's in line with the MC/ML's personalities so it's acceptable.
Hidden Love is still my favorite from this author/universe, but I think I liked Folding Moon more than First Frost. Do note that Folding Moon has a lot less cross-interaction in the universe than the other 2 books, which makes sense since the other 2 novels focus on the Sang siblings. If you are wondering how this is connected, Fu Zhengchu used to chase Sang Zhi from Hidden Love. Sang Yan's bar is also featured in this novel, but that's about it.
For those who are curious about Fu Shizhe's past/reason his personality changed (big spoiler) :

Fu Shizhe's best/childhood friend, Jiang Yun, committed sucide while they were both studying for their doctorates. Jiang Yun was like a brother to Fu Shizhe, so his death impacted him hard, especially since there were signs of Jiang Yun's unstable mental state. At the time Fu Shizhe could sense something wrong, but did not understand the extent of Jiang Yun's inner turmoil as he had kept it from Fu Shizhe. Therefore when Jiang Yun dies, Fu Shizhe reflects on things he overlooked. The MC and ML met 2 years after his best friend's death, so understandably ML is still very affected by what had happened.
I think the worst part is that Jiang Yun's death occurred right after his talk with Fu Shizhe. Not only that, but the same building as well (Jiang Yun had jumped). The Jiang family had asked Fu Shizhe to make sure Jiang Yun takes his medication (he was diagnosed with depression and anxiety) after Jiang Yun had ct his wr*sts. Fu Shizhe did so, also out of his own concern, but Jiang Yun was spitting out the medicine secretly (Jiang family blamed Fu Shizhe when news broke out, which left ML feeling as if he is the one to cause Jiang Yun's death). Fu Shizhe had found out about Jiang Yun's diary entries before his death, where Jiang writes about his feeling of incompetence, stress of school, being taking advantage of/blackmail, wanting to drop out but parents disapproving, envy towards Fu Shizhe's intelligence etc. Overall a lot of bottled up emotions on Fu Shizhe's side with him feeling heavy guilt/remorse.
For the most part, Jiang Yun considered Fu Shizhe as his younger brother. It is only when Jiang Yun's mental health took a dip for the worst that he starts to become jealous of Fu Shizhe and compare to him. Jiang Yun thought that gradually getting off the medicine would make him normal again, but we know that is not the case.
