You shouldn't forget that Kou brings out the real Futaba and makes her shine the brightest. They'll last a life…
How was it poorly written in the drama? I agree with the comment it showcased flawed teens who act their age and might not always make the best choices very well. They certainly should've ended up together after all of tbis since both make each other the happiest and help each other grow the most. After the whole drama I couldn't see them without each other, especially during the trip we saw how well they work with each other whilst apart they are miserable. I personally don't think you should reduce them or doubt their lasting based on 1 mistake Kou made out of love and protection. If you understand his POV there is no way they'd ever break up, she is everything to Kou.

Or did you want her with Touma?

*sigh* As much as I really enjoyed this series, both seasons, I have to admit--I agree with your post. Season…
It did a poor job in Kou's character whilst uplifting Touma and Narumi.. it really makes me angry..
On Ao Haru Ride Season 2 Feb 26, 2024
Season 1 was so good but Season 2 really rushed things, as a Fansubber on Twt has said it feels as if they made Touma and Narumi better people whilst Kou received the short end of the stick. His motives aren't fleshed out, came across as him being unable to decide between 2 women when it was NEVER about that. Sure he tried to be the emotional support he didn’t have for Narumi at first but she manipulated him through his trauma and dragged him back down to the beginning. Kou in the manga even explained how he felt guilty for prioritising his mother less, for moving on thanks to Futaba and thought a relationship wouldn't have been right/would harm Futaba whilst he was fighting-his trauma and working on cutting Narumi off. He didn’t want to half-heartedly date Futaba.

These reasons were actually reasonable and would have given angry watchers a little cool off. Honestly the drama could've explored these reasons even better than the manga itself since they were really glossed over quickly (and even some readers missed it)

It's not just his motives that were change they took out his best scenes too:

- Kou trying to communicate with Futaba right after her scene with Narumi, asking her to talk it out
- Kou naming his cat after Futaba to hug her when he is depressed
-Kou having written Futaba's name in his textbooks
- Kou finding Futaba when she is lost, not Touma
- Kou running around to find her her backpack so that she won't be sad about losing her couple keychain with Touma
- Kou going out of his character, wanting to suprise Futaba with flowers and excitedly waiting for her reaction
- Their cute dates where Kou thought Futaba wanted a kiss but she was talking about the rain pouring down
- Kou's POV chapters that explain how he waited years for her and it's his feelings that started the story as he was the 1 who saw her first in the hallway

All these scenes were erased yet we got new Touma and Narumi scenes that didn’t exist. We even feel bad for Narumi, I wonder if the producer had a crush on Touma because they completely erased his faults, flaws, mistakes and bad behaviour. In the manga it was clear that he saw Kou in crowd before he demanded an answer, panicking bc he realised he was losing and didn’t even accept her no as an aswer. Later on till the end he admitted several times that he pressured her into it and took advantage of his lowest.

Is Touma a red flag in manga?
It's toned down in the drama but the guy flat out asked his friend if it's okay to take advantage of the Female Lead's vulnerability and said he'd be less of a man if he didn’t.
