I loved S1. S2 is a complete letdown. There is virtually no character growth - all of these characters are ultimately…
Can we discuss it ?
I always felt XY being mean was a response, a protective mechanism, that usually happened after XL was cold and hurtful.
Isn't it selfish to conceal all his efforts? I mean, I know XL wanted XY to feel like she never owed him anything but he made the decision for her by not telling the truth. He denied her the right to make a choice. I don't think the identity problem was essential at the moment of the bond as she didn't plan to assume it at that moment.
The push and pull - yes, he was helping her alleviate the pain/sadness, but only so that the next moment to be cold and distant. Even if there is a reason for this, it feels emotionally uncomfortable, as XY doesn't know it.
Me trying to get over a character by psychologically dissecting it. Nevermind, I guess I just can't get over the fact they never stood a chance.

Thank you! Thank you!
"There are no truly loving relationships in this drama" - exactly they were just people trying to be less unhappy for a couple of moments.
"Xiang Liu was supremely toxic from the get go" - right, totally right. I just get angry from the fact that people overlook the fact that he was mean and duplicitous in both seasons. I mean, yes he saved her a couple of times but that doesn't change the fact that he was very, very hurtful. And overall this kind of savior complex feels very selfish. All the push and pull - being nice for a moment, encouraging her, and the next just saying the coldest things ever. Yes, she said it was terrifying to meet him in the dreams but that was justified. And erasing the memories in the mirror feels counterproductive - are you trying to detach yourself or trying to be hurtful one more time?
"IF he went to a lot of therapy (lol)" - OMG, yes. He needs healing. A lot of healing. Because even if XY would reciprocate his feelings, he would auto-sabotage it. He just contains too much suffering and that would pour out in how he expresses love.
" him and XY don't have a true love bond - it's a trauma bond, literally" - exactly, a codependence relationship based on the fear of abandonment. The only thing that I appreciate in Jing is that he confessed his love. It just feels quite cowardly that XY and Xiang Liu couldn't just get the guts to say that they like each other. Maybe they both feared that would be a point of no return, but still - just say it.
Conclusion. Stay single. Learn to be self-reliant.
She gives him chance, after chance, after chance... after chance to come out with it, but XL never takes the bite.…
Thank you for stating the facts.
One can love 2 persons at the same time with the same sincerity.
XL would mean intense and painful, Jing calm and grow together till the end of times.
However, in the final instance all that doesn't matter as XL made the choice for her.
Yes, it's true that she initially wanted to find someone to accompany her forever and was afraid of the full emotions that XL's love would implicate(when she refused to kiss him underwater), nevertheless, she gave XL a chance when she waited on the shore in the red dress and he refused to come.
I need to say this. Jing is one of the most decent people there towards Xiao Yao because he is the only one who wouldn't use deceit, conspiracies, or any coercive methods on Xiao Yao. Furthermore, he is so consistent about his feelings - his love remains pure and unwavering from beginning to end, and at least he dares to admit it. He is stable, the opposite of an emotional rollercoaster, which many might find tedious. Also, he is not the only one to blame. Xiao Yao also shivered in her feelings and her reaction in S1 was a bit excessive and unfair; she was so quick to condemn him as if she was afraid of her own guilt because subconsciously she was eager to end the relationship. The problem is that she doesn't love him that much, as the idea of the peace and comfort he offers, because she knows he would always prioritize her. On top of that, Jing is deep, because he is in the gray area of becoming a villain. He looks so sickly and always morally correct, but that doesn't mean that he is not sly or damaged, and the fact that all the people around him and all the circumstances seem against him and Xiao Yao push him harder into the darkness, looks exciting. In any case, people should separate the character from the actor and not project their frustrations with the character onto the actor’s amazing performance. Like common, let's be honest - there wasn't much the actor could do, mainly because that is who Jing is supposed to be - the apogee of suffering.

Jing feels too good at manipulation, on a level that would scare me subconsciously and XL is so tragic and heartbroken - it's painful to love.
