Adapted from books written by the same author, Mo Shu Bai. This author really knows how to tell the story of a married couple learning how to truly love and depend on each other, possibly for the first time, in the midst of a world of turbulent palace conflict and power changing hands.
If you like a drama that doesn't take itself too seriously (although it is not a full on slapstick comedy), male leads who become super OP over time, and minimal romance thanks to an ML who is too focused on his goals to pay serious attention to the multiple women who want his attention, then this is the drama for you.
If you like a hero story that isn't all about romance and has epic fight scenes, beautiful male leads, and an ML who is super OP (and at times morally ambiguous), this is the one for you.
In AYTO, Chang Hua Sen essentially plays the exact same character with almost the exact same background as in AJTL. The only difference is that he snaps out of his obsession with his shifu (the Female Lead), much earlier on and is able to not let his personal feelings get in the way of successfully running his nation, and not get in the way of the main CP finding happiness. So imagine if Li Tong Guang was written with a much more consistent and respectable characterization.
