This is pure Chinese drama slop. Everything feels rushed. Almost every emotional scene feels unearned. It's one badly written trope after another. I wish the industry would focus on quality over quantity.

"I want her to win alone not with other's helps"

That would be silly. She can't win alone. She's not God.

I'm sensing a pattern. First, the drama uses dramatic music and scenes to make the FL look like a strategic genius, only to make her look like an amateur who's way over her head.

Sigh, another watered-down adaptation.

I’m saying her crying her eyes out for a male “friend” when the drama never truly convinced us that their friendship was that deep is weird.

But the drama failed to show that strong bond. They had a few encounters. But I didn’t get the feeling that they were best friends to the point that she would cry that much for him. There’s a difference between shedding tears for a friend and crying her eye out like her husband died.

Modern writers can't help themselves.

It's ridiculous. A married woman should NEVER cried that hard for another man, unless they wanna make the point that she had feelings for him. I hate this.

The FL has cried harder for the sml than for the ML. I get he's her "friend" or whatever. But it's kinda ridiculous. As a man, I'd not want my wife to cry this hard for another man. Sorry, but this shit is so forced. I want all that crying and emotion for the ML, not shared with the "special" friend. I don't remember her crying that hard when she thought her husband was gravely injured after she served him divorced papers.

MDL should only allow people to rate a drama after it has reached its midway point. These early ratings are getting extremely dumb.

Exactly. I hate the fact that the drama doesn’t frame this manipulation tactic as a bad thing. They’re sending the wrong message to people. Spouses who manipulate their significant other like that usually destroy their relationships.

Keeping your distance because you’re angry IS not the same as forcing your spouse’s hand with divorce. Yes the divorce letter was his dumb idea. She didn’t have to go along with it.

Sure, the ML was distant because he was angry. But threatening to divorce him without stopping to consider how he must have been feeling shows a lack of emotional maturity. All she cared about was that she did nothing wrong. She failed entirely to think about how he must have felt.

Spouses should never use the threat of divorce or withholding sex to make their partner do what they want. That’s one of the quickest way to destroy a marriage. What if he really died? I hate the fact that the incident was all fake and no lesson was learned from her end.

Have you read the Minglan novel? They made some interesting changes. E.g., in the novel, Gu Ting Ye married another woman who made his life a living hell before getting with Minglan. Also, GTY was a brute in bed. Her grandmother was worried about her. And, Minglan didn't really like Gu Ting Ye's daughter. She did right by her, mainly out of duty as a wife. In my opinion, keeping these elements would've made the story that much more interesting. But then it would've made both leads less sympathetic as characters.

CDramas would be so much more interesting if directors were allowed to be more honest with source material. But then they'd probably lose most of the core audience that has some built-in expectations on how their MLs and FLs should act.

Minglan's ML is a good example. They did dilute him a bit, but he wasn't bad. So many of these drama adaptations have destroyed these ML's characters by softening them up too much. Don't get me wrong, I understand some of the censorship. E.g., many of these girls were married at 14. I think aging them up is a good choice. But now we have ML who feels like they've been softened too much to fit the sensibilities of the modern audience.

Not just more misogyny. A lot of it comes down to how men were expected to carry themselves: being stoic, duty-focused, blunt, and having more authority in the household. Modern adaptations often only make male leads likable by giving them contemporary attitudes from the start.

In Lonesome Dove, the main guys are practical, sometimes rough, and hold old-fashioned views on women and responsibility, yet they’re written as complex and admirable. Same with captains in older naval stories like Master and Commander — hierarchical with period-typical ideas about marriage, but still decent men.

Plenty of people back then, both men and women, genuinely accepted traditional gender roles. It wasn’t all oppression. I’m not defending real cruelty, but stories lose something when male characters can’t feel like they actually belong to their own era.
