HOT TAKE: I loved this drama overall, but the ending left me a bit disappointed. She shouldn't have poured cold water on his wish to marry her for her career. This guy helped her build up her confidence and reclaim her career. Yet they made it look like she's picking her career over marrying him. By the end, it felt like the show was quietly promoting living together and a career over getting married to the person who absolutely loves and is devoted to you. Marrying the RIGHT person early is infinitely better than becoming a corporate slave. Cohabitation is NOT the optimal arrangement as it often degrades relationships over time. I can't believe they've subtly pushed this anti-marriage message while China is in the midst of a low birthrate crisis. The CCP should decree that every show should end with a happy marriage and children. lol
Xiao Li (ML), a thug worked in a country side casino, lived with his sick mother who was former courtesan. He was…
" her puppet husband was impotent and they never shared the bed." So she never had sex with her puppet husband? ππ Ok, that makes me feel a little better.
Pei, you idiot. You thought you could get a girl who doesn't like you to start liking you by kicking the man that she still loves when he's down? What a pathetic human being.
I was about to curse out the writer if they made HX dumb enough to take that scarf. But she's smart and level-headed. Friendly, yeah, but she knows where to draw the line. And to be fair, Pei hasn't done anything wrong to her. In his head, he's just pursuing a single woman who tried to friendzone him. If she'd accepted his gift, that would've sent the wrong message.
In the next episodes, Pei gets a reality check on his "great love." Then a short jealousy stint from HX (it's always funny when couples take turns getting jealous over nothing). After that, the other shoe drops on our main couple.
Here's what I'm expecting: 1. Pei gets redeemed. He stands up to his dad and helps Yu crack his case. 2. HX breaks up with Yu for a bit because of her father. I'm expecting a lot of tears 3. The couple fights their way back to each other.
I figure the writer might force in this side couple at the last second, and I'm not feeling it. They should've had Zhao and Wang as a dating pair instead of being married. That whole subplot came off shallow. Or they could've done more to develop Zhao and Gong emotionally. The smarter move is just leaving them as friends. Let's end this drama on a solid note!
While I believe his basic instinct is to use the HX to trigger Yu, I think he's really falling for HX. We all know he has no chance, but he doesn't know that. What he does next, when he learns about HX's connection to that accident, will determine whether he becomes another crazy and obsessive sml, or a pitiful sml who experiences some character growth.
We are on the same page. I commented earlier that I bet that mother went straight home and told her husband about…
Well said. I wonder if they'll face this hardship together as promised. Our leads' relationship is supposed to be the opposite of Xiao's failed marriage. So they should remain strong. So I don't think Hu Xiu will abandon Yu, but she also loves her father, which will cause a major dilemma.

"their romance is dark"
How?

Pei Zhen: "I will protect her."
Arrogant Pei Pei thinks he's a main character lmao.
