It depends on who you ask and from whose perspective. I liked the ending.
Too much is revealed about Hiasa, he is a con man, he never reciprocated Konno's feelings, but instead used him. (e.g. contract) There is something that can be called friendship between them, but I wouldn't call it that. At the end, we see Konno fishing with another man, and that man gives Konno more kindness and attention in one minute of gameplay than Hiasa does in the entire movie. I interpreted the ending to mean that years later this man is Konno's partner and is much better with him as a human being than with Hiasa. (This new man already wants to introduce him to his family, etc. so Konno is important to him) That's why I wrote where we look at it. If the two main characters becoming a couple at any cost is the Happy End, then it is not a Happy End. If the main character is happy and satisfied at the end, but with someone else, then it is a Happy End. In real life, I'd rather root for the second man. At the same time, I wouldn't call this film a typical fluffy BL, there won't be fireworks and big love in it. But I like this genre better, it tells slowly and beautifully about life, dreams and missed opportunities. It's about the pain of loss after a disaster and how to start over. It doesn't matter how deep you dive, pain, grief and loss are woven around by life and you can finally find your own peace. If you start after that, I recommend the same as the others. Not a single scene, not even a minute should be left out, because this visual world also tells a story. It uses symbols and very nicely. So I loved this movie. And I'm glad it ended up like that. I hope it was helpful for you :)
