For example, in the novel, after the Imperial exam arc, Fan Xian uses the bureau to kill a ton of officials from the second prince's side ( including Bi'an, who is personally killed by Fan Xian) but in the drama that has been changed and he is made to look more humane and less cutthroat. His furious bloody rampage has been completely removed. At the same time, in the novel , there is a general distrust between the emperor and Fan Xian. One of the reasons, besides the ones told in the drama, the assassination 'show' by Shadow is organized by Chen Ping Ping in order to remove the Emperor's suspicion of Fan Xian and make him appear as a Loyal subject. Another big change is the fact that the Emperor never revealed his power to anyone and is believed to be a mortal who does not practice cultivation until later on in the novel but in the drama, signs of his strength are shown early on.
