I've watched Prisoner of Beauty, Journey of Love and The Long Ballad and his character in all of them was same an expressionless cold guy and if you're think his performance was best this year then you surely haven't seen enough dramas this year you should watch performances in When Life Gives you Tangerines, Melo Movie, Squid Game, Nine Puzzles, Weak Hero Class 2.
I've watching most of the popular dramas both korean and Chinese released this year so you should also make sure to check them out.

You're right about some things like the performance of main lead of Guardians of Defang was extraordinary but unfortunately it didn't released this year otherwise I wouldn't mind if he was at the top but currently the actor at top was just okay his acting was of Cha Eunwoo level and believe me if Eunwoo acted this year then he would have been atleast in top 5 because of stans.

You're also right that historical cdramas are better enen though I've never seen a drama as good as My Dearest or Nokdu Flower also The Haunted Palace released this year was good, these are rare in Kdramas but are really good.

You mentioned you you didn't like Squid Game but this is about performance so what do you think about their performance? Do you think Yu Ning and Zu Er had better performance then the main cast?

As for the thriller and modern dramas these are mostly better then Chinese, British and American series you try watching from the top rated ones then there'd be no coming back.

Some cdramas are really good even though modern ones are ass but historical ones are good but if you compare it with kdramas then there is still big gap. I think the performance of Liu Yu Ning you're taking about is in Prisoner of Beauty which I've watched but if you compare it with performances in When Life Gives you Tangerines, Squid Game, Mercy for None, Our Unwritten Seoul then you'll easily know which has better performance if you've watched any of these.

Usually the bias is with cdrama actors, even though the majority of audience watch Kdramas of MDL but the cdrama watchers are far more active that's why Chinese actors that so many flowers and fresh comments everyday.
That's the reason cdrama actors are high in this list because the audience shares the list and encourage others to vote.
