But now that you say that , it makes quite much sense how there is no empress dowager etc and how nothing of the previous emperor or the current emperor's childhood in the palace etc wass mentioned. If looked at that way then maybe my disappointment in the former empress can subdue ever so slightly. But even if that's the case, she should have known his plans of ruling right? Because there was no mention that she didn't know the plans since their fallout seems to have only begun after FSG was born. So basically she still married someone who she knew will become a king ?

Yeap totally agree with your point where you say there's usually at least another competent prince in other dramas but I personally have watched dramas where the whole fight is over and the emperor is still alive (in old age mind you) and the prince/general leave their posts. Yes, the major case is over for now but I don't believe the court will ever be only filled with supporters and good intention people. With that many officials, no way all of them are clean hearted. I hope they follow the novel ending where he becomes the emperor. But yeah I'm also waiting for that event. Hopefully it will open his eyes clearly so that he will be back to the clear headed general prince with his looking at the bigger picture. Just scared for the angst and heartbreak the event will bring but since it's a drama, we can be rest assured he won't actually die this early

Especially when they are like "Oh everything is over now, we can go to the countryside and live our lives" but how can anything be over? As long as the royalty exists and politics exists, we know it is never fully over. And when MCs are not a prince etc but still hold major titles to a good emperor, I'm pretty sure the emperor wants them by their side. I mean a sudden change in major spots in the emperor's trusted allies will also bring major struggles. I understand if it's retirement for old age but most of the MCs run away in their primes haha

And like you said choosing to revenge one life and risking thousands in the process definitely doesn't sit right with me

Exactly!! Many of these dramas seem to over romanticise the main characters (especially the royalty) who have the whole country on their shoulders going after what they want for THEMSELF. I mean I get it they didn't choose to be born as royalty and they too want freedom but since what happens has happened, and especially in cases like FSG where they know if the throne falls in bad hands and not to him, that the whole country and the common people will suffer greatly, they should hold that responsibility, It's as if they are romanticising the main characters pursuit of freedom of what they want and then forgetting that the common people too have families who will be wronged or evenly falsely accused and killed if the throne falls into wrong hands. I feel so bad for the commoners.

I like FSG as a character overall but just this one point the scripwriters could have changed to make him even more worthy of respect, making him being someone who understands his responsibility

I might be the minority but I want Suige to end up as the emperor and not run to the plains like most main characters do and I hope FYX be by his side as an empress who also gets her partial freedom in not being confined to the palace and help him with the investigations etc as much as she can, just scared since the former empress was also a general. But ofc if the MCs have children, would be nice if they both nurture the children to be good rulers rather than like the former empress who tried to run away with her kids

But on another matter, didnt the former empress marry the emperor before he took the throne? Thus her saying that he changed after taking the throne? From that it seemed like they were together even before the throne but he changed once he got the throne

yeap yeap and her generally telling FSG that when an emperor sits on the throne, he becomes evil? Telling that to a young prince or even a young child for that matter was another wrong thing she did. She shouldn;t have generalised all emperors like that. She could have warned him that the throne may change some people but not straight out say it as if all emperors are evil. I feel like that played a huge part on FSG rejecting to be the emperor even though he is the only suitable one at the moment

Yes absolutely both of them are at great fault. To be honest when we first got to know she was framed and killed, I was expecting the empress to have been a righteous strong willed empress who had given everything or whatever much she could give in supporting the country and was in the end betrayed so I hated the Zhuangs and even the emperor (though I secretly thought something more must have happened like the emperor could have sent the empress to the place she found and was keeping it a secret so I gave him the benefit of doubt) but now that the truth is revealed (or at least from the emperor's telling cuz I still have a small feeling he is purposely saying all this to make FSG hate him more and that he has overdramatisised what happened) I feel like the empress wasn't all worthy of respect either

That the former empress was indeed a bit irresponsible, I mean I get that she wanted to be free but she literally chose to marry a prince who will become the emperor and it didn't seem like they were arranged married or anything. I get that the emperor started to have ambitions and all but from the flashback, we see that she didn't have a shred of affection towards the emperor later on. She could have tried to talk him out of it or something like how loved ones do when they see their loved ones going astray but rather it seemed like she acted like she was betrayed? Then her deciding to just run away from her responsibilities of being and empress WITH HER CHILDREN because she wants to be free when again, she chose to marry him.

The Emperor too, it's clear halfway thru he had started having personal ambitions and not for the country solely. But I agree with him for the part where he says he is afraid it will fall into the wrong hands. Right now more than half the court is controlled by the Prime Minister and even the second prince will obv be controlled by the PM since it's so obv he dont have the ability to be an independant King.

Coming to FSG, I have always been a bit turned off by main characters that 'have no interest in the throne' when it is obv they are the only suitable candidate for the throne. Here, FSG says that the emperor has another son who can take the throne as if he has forgotten that his brother is still the family of Zhuangs and he knows how calculating the Zhuangs are. If his second brother takes the throne, the country IS NOT GOING TO BE SAFE. The Zhuangs don't seem to care for the common people either.
